Nice work man, when I get some time this weekend I will have to go about trying to make my first big profit using it (more then a dollar or two a day).
 
Excellent tool, looks really promising. You should at least put some ads up or something man, try and make a little revenue off of it. +rep and +thanks ;)

I have some ideas to monetize and get some food on my own table :) but ads, no... not at the moment.

You're right, but in the beginning it's all about getting as many people as possible to give feedback and check it out. And, I have a little surprise for you (and it's a surprise for me, as well.): :)

over 50%+ of the people who have signed up so far have submitted their email. That's pretty cool, considered that you don't have to. And, I honestly thing i've gotten more emails than if I'd ask people to verify their account with an email adress. But, I don't know, have to split test it to be sure.

If I release trendfetch.com to the public you'd obviously have to verify your account in some way. Then, to monetize I'll probably create a premium version or something. But, the thing is: Just because I've created a service people register for and use doesn't mean anyone would be willing to pay for it, so we'll see.

kinda like a catch 22... your competition is 15million so you pay more for clicks. but when your competition is 0 you get no results

For those of you subscribed to this thread - here's some updates:

Just updated the interface so it's more user friendly and easier to understand. It will now work with smaller monitors, netbooks etc. without being messed up in the layout.

Also, just added top 20 search terms of all times. "Most popular trends" in the main menu.
Meaning you'll now be able to see the hottest keywords of all times in a neat list. Example (these are actually top 3 as we speak.)

tiger woods mistress photo - 31
nexus one - 28
golden globe nominations 2010 list- 22

Why does it matter? Well, they're the most "trending" search terms as we speak, and tigerwoodsmistressphoto.com is free :P in case you want to give it a try.

Okay, let me know what you think and i'll keep adding new features. Over 450+ beta testers now so lots of useful feedback coming in.

Superman, just FYI your data may be flawed due to google just changing their trends page over the last day. They just cut the results in half from 40 to 20, so your graphs/data are probably skewed a bit.
 
Excellent project you have stepped into, i hope you will include lots of features in near future.
I would love to see if it can fetch the hottest by including the twitter conversations as just a parameter, you think it worths including ?
i think you can make a check box to let the users to decide whether to include it or not.

Fuck yeah, I just noticed! Well, theyr'e still there so i'll just have to re-adjust the range from 0 to 20 instead, or 0-19 really :)

This does mess up some stuff but hopefully i'll be able to take care of it asap. Sorry for the troubles this may have caused but thanks for telling me!

Hi! Good question, and it's a very simple answer: I will, but Google is my ... sort of... "playground" and testing search engine (not to mention the biggest.)

Will include Bing and Twitter in the near future. But starting with Google as they are... well... the biggest :)

Yeah, i'm actually playing around with their API to come up with something of relevance. I plan to measure how hot the discussion about the current trend is on Twitter to determine what people are saying about the trend.

About Google changing from top 40 to top 20:


As I've been using 1-40 to rank the keywords, the graphs will be a bit messed up until the majority of keywords in the database is collected from their "new" top 20 list.

This unfortunately means i'll have to wait like a week or so before I change everything to the "new" way of calculating how hot a trend is (divided by 20 instead of 40). Sad but the only way to solve it without doing hours and hours of manual correction/work.

Sorry 'bout that, but it's either the Google way or no way at all ;)
 
Update:

Just added another cool feature: Definition! Trendfetch.com will now make a quick visit to wikipedia and try to find a very quick definition of any popular search trend. This makes it easier to understand what the niche/keyword is all about. It will obviously NOT work with every single keyword, but if it's a name, company, product or happening it should work quite good.

Next step will be to fetch news results to let you go directly to research why the term is trending.
