Need Advice Related to WordPress Tags

Hey, Everyone, I am planning to delete a tag on my WordPress website that has 12 Post tagged and also it is indexed in google. But I want to create an article that is similar to the tag keyword which I want to remove. I have to delete that tag because it will never rank on google due to thin content. So I am planning to delete that tag and get the URL removed from search results and then write a detailed article on that keyword. Does this sound good? or have you ever deleted a WordPress tag or category that affected your site in a bad way? Please Help

What you want to do is delete the tag, make sure the tag pages have noindex on them (SEO plugin can easily do this) then simply create a new page with thes similar or identical slug.

You don't have to do that. Just make sure the tag pages are noindexed on your website.

Hey, thank you for advice, I will delete this tag but can't Noindex the others as they are ranked and bring traffic. Also, I have to delete this tag is because the keyword I am targetting is hard and my tag archive won't rank as the other sites have much better-detailed content. I hope it doesn't affect the rankings of the post tagged when I delete this.

Don't noindex them then, yes. I suggest you redirect this tag page URL to the new one you want to rank. This way you will not lose anything and avoid cannibalization issues.

@tiiberius redirect suggestion is a good one, and you can simply just leave the tag archive as it is. As long as you don't build links to the archive page, it won't compete with your article targeting the same keyword. Google will see the article as the right page to rank if it has more links than the tag archive.
