Moderator name should be added with action

Problem with that is it is the police policing themselves, that is not an open and transparent way to do things as it always gets brushed under the carpet.

No it does not get brushed under the carpet.

We have a process in place when there is a complaint against a Mod or if there is a question about a warning/post removal.

There are reasons we have different levels of staff members in place for a reason.

True, but BTB has already said there is a process in place, although there should be more transparency when the process is taking place as suggested in the OP, all we really know is that it will be "looked into".

When a staff member deletes a post/thread you get a notification only, without the name of the staff member that did the action. It would be great to have that added as well as it would be a great addition to have the same thing applied on the resolved/denied report notifications.

That's a custom made hook they are using, as the general settings of XenForo do display the name of the moderator who has handled the report.

I believe they had their own reasons for removing/disabling the feature.

We don't often know who the mod is, so the current system is not open and transparent and so we cannot complain and that is my and the point of this thread!

On a personal level you are more than happy to argue your case, as you did in this thread :)

But most mods that ban something prefer to hide behind anonymity and when I inquire who my question goes unanswered. So how do you suggest I complain?

A lot of members here are talking about transparency. This is something I also think is needed on the forum on both ends. Too often, I see a lot of members say that they received an infraction unfairly, that they were banned for no reason, etc. The majority of the time, there was a valid reason, and in the cases there weren't, the action was taken by mistake. Recently, I've been humouring the idea that infractions and ban reasons should be made public for transparency purposes. Many of you already know that I want their to be more accountability and transparency from everyone, and I'm sure some of you remember I took this action on a member in 2019 because they were making a lot of unfounded claims about how they were "mistreated".

@Zwielicht is choosing to leave this thread open, maybe another mod would not have and therein lies the problem...
Forum suggestions and feedback threads are handled one of two ways:
  1. If we can provide an answer to the OP's question (e.g., How do I open a marketplace thread?), we answer the question and close the thread.
  2. If we can't provide an answer to the OP's question, the thread is left open for discussion purposes.
It's not my personal choice to leave this thread open, it's how we've been instructed to handle these threads.
I have had posts liked by multiple members then deleted by an anonymous mod because and I quote the reason "I don't agree with your crap!" Or sometimes no reason at all.
If you're not paraphrasing and this is exactly what a moderator send to you, then the details of that need to be sent to support so that the matter can be looked into. Moderators are not permitted to delete posts based on their opinions.

As @BassTrackerBoats already said, there's a hierarchy here. This is explained in the "[UPDATED] BHW Member Levels" thread.
  • Super Moderator In addition to Moderator responsibilities, can review trader feedback, post ratings and likes and can review infraction appeals or complaints By admin and site owner approval
  • Administrator Mod duties + Username changes Account setting changes (email, contact info etc) Restoring lost / forgotten / compromised accounts Review appeals or staff complaints By site owner approval
  • Super Administrator Admin duties + Review appeals against infractions, warnings or a ban Appointed by site owner
To explain further, if there's an issue with a moderator, administrators are allowed to review appeals against moderator actions. If you have an issue with an administrator, you can contact super administrator (@Diamond Damien) to appeal this decision.

In regards to someone trying to hide behind anonymity, this won't fly if there's legitimately an issue with someone abusing their position, as multiple moderators demonstrated in this thread.

Agreeing and disagreeing thought on a public forum are very obvious and normal.

When I saw my post removed by some moderator, I decided to post this. I was knowing the fact that same mod will reply first here.

I reached him, clarified things and still when I had issue. I reached to support.

I was knowing the outcome, but I am happy reached them coz the action taken on my post was first time ever in last four years.

But, I can say what mod did is fair from his point of view and rules.

Well, to me I understand both points of view. Both views have merits and demerits. It’s a question of weighing which outweighs the other. I think it’s unnecessary to know the the mods name because Support can already see who the mod is and possibly why what was done was done.Knowing the mods name only creates the potential to personalise a grouse between the member and the mod and ultimately will be unhealthy for the member and even the mod. We are humans and definitely have different approaches to issues. This will always show up anywhere in life , be it with the Police, Government agency, you name it, subjectivity of decision making is a fact of life. You only do your best to be on the favored side as much as you can and when not so, a honest and polite approach usually resolves issues - except there was really some bad blood underground which in this forum is highly unlikely.

Another option is rather than being able to see the mods name, there should be a report button on the alert you get when a post is deleted / or an action is made by a moderator.

This would help to ensure that the action can be reviewed by any member of the team who is available, rather than a specific moderator which helps to distribute resources more efficiently.
I think this sounds like a good middle-ground option. We have a feature similar to this for moderators to discuss actions, but we rarely need to use this. Maybe this is something that could be implemented for regular members at some point.

There are some situations where I will process a report and I will add "~davids355" to the end of the user viewable alert so they know it was me who left the message. However, there are plenty of situations where I want to remain anonymous and indeed some situations where I don't want to send any alert at all; perhaps when I don't want to send any sort of message, inferred or otherwise, in relation to whatever action I have taken based on the report.

@davids355 if you can choose when to be transparent or not it is not really transparency!

@Zwielicht don't get me wrong I have no issue with 99% of the stuff mods do. Indeed I have probably sent more apologies to mods than anything else.

But occasionally there is an issue I would like addressed and as outlined we often don't know who the mod is, so how can we complain? When I have inquired, including the times I mentioned, all goes silent on your end.

Which times, out of curiosity? I'm trying to see when you might have been ignored by a moderator or admin, and I can't find anything. I'd like to help if you truly have not received a response on an issue that was important.

Even if you do this, my only suggestion in case of deleting a post of a paid member, mods team need to be more logical and practical.

And, that is suggestion coz I feel rules are being implemented too strictly, without seeing any past decision or posts' done.

Note: this is my point of view.

I don't know if you're suggesting that we delete the posts of paid members less, but if you are, then I do not personally agree with that. We strive to be logical and practical with every member, not just the ones paying for membership.

I believe what he wanted to say is that if a post from a paid member is being deleted there should be more information regarding the action.

This was for HAF and WTB.
Where you need not make any difference between free and paid members.

That would be a more reasonable suggestion, but even still, I don't know if that's something that paid members should get over unpaid members.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying here. Can you elaborate?
