Is Ahrefs keyword difficulty metric reliable?

both Ahrefs and Semrush KD is useless. But KWfinder is pretty accurate as it bases its metics on DA\PA and CF\TF. Ahrefs calculate KD based on quantity of backlinks for exact pages in top10, not on DR\UR and this is really unlogical

Just check what sites are ranking for those keywords. Check their DR if they are low then they are low difficulty

That is a difficult question to answer accurately. Do you mean with Ahrefs, SEMrush, or in general? I’m assuming that you’re asking about Ahrefs.
I wouldn’t go over 40 (the lower end of the “difficult” zone), and even then I’d be careful and recheck. As so many others have said, use it to get keyword ideas, then either check those ideas manually or with SEMrush.
It also depends on the keyword in question. Sometimes you’re in luck and simply find accurate information right off the bat. You never know.

Ahrefs is useful for keyword research, and it can provide lots of related keywords. But their keyword difficulty score is quite unreliable.
Even for difficult keywords, it can tag them as easy ones. I guess it just scans the top 10 results and calculates the KD. It is better to check out the SERP manually to get an idea about the competition.

Manual check is always the best.

I do this:
- Check if the sites on first page have backlinks and what type of backlinks
- Check if they target the keyword I'm checking
- Check their word count
- Check what sites are they

And I can see the overall difficulty of the keyword quickly.

Relying on apps is risky. The time is the most precious thing.

If 1st page is filled with authority sites but almost with 0 backlinks, that means the keyword is easy to rank with parasite ?
