Google releasing a large update today

Has anyone checked if there's a correlation with drop in rank / loss of snippets with page speed?

I check one site in google console and affected pages were "red" in the beta page speed section. I've now tweaked a few things on the site and increased the loading time. Let's see if that helps!

Can't be site speed. a few sites I track that are top 3 has a load time of 8+ seconds

From what I see from a lot of online discussions - as stated by John Mueller, if google wont index - site may not be relevant to google and you should check your content, relevancy etc.

This is something that John Mueller has said just recently about this new indexing issue after this core update?

Or do you mean that's something he said in the past?

Did anyone try editing and updating their content to regain featured snippets ranking? My website lost 90% if not all featured snippet positions that caused huge drop in traffic 70%. From what I can see mostly authority sites are ranking in snippets those with strong domains.

I’m pretty sure the update are about content relevance and spammy stuff. One of my website have a lot of spammy keywords and content length 800+ words count got hugely impacted. My others website who have contents less than 500 got a slight increase, no drop at all. My competitors have around 500-600 words counts in average and they rank in first page.

I’m going to update all my contents and make sure that it looks less spammy and I will let you guys know if I see some change!

The results of my research confirm this.

With a confidence level of 83%, we can say that the "Winners" has the following basic general parameters:
* The number of words per page is less than 600.
* The number of images per page is less than 23.
* Ahrefs Domain Rating greater than 44.5.

It's not the number of words on a page that has an impact, but how that content is written. I'd love to see some data on how the usual sentence and paragraph level rewriting, that's been rife for years (I'm guilty myself) has impacted rank.

Not sure, but have feeling the "unique" content bar is no longer ruled by passing copyscape.

From Index, I checked coverage. Most of the indexed pages are not included in the sitemap. Google is indexing tags, categories and about page.
There is some lag in GSC data and indexing issues reported as well. You should check on google using the site: command.

I have competitor who has huge content (5k+ words) while others word range is 2000-3000.

In this update, his site got major improvement and currently ranks #1-5 for major keywords

Mine get higher rank,
Thanks google

Each article contains +1k words, no copy paste or something like that

So I wrote a post about the situation of my websites, since I thought it wasn't this update due to the timing of the decrease in traffic. However, I'll post this here, perhaps it helps to find out what's going on.

So on one of my sites I noticed a large drop in traffic in March 2020. The website is in the travel industry, so naturally I assumed it was the effect of corona...
I'm not so sure anymore. Looking at the screenshot of the gsc, you see that the number of impressions stayed quite constant. The clicks have been reduced to a minimum. Some more information on this:
- The website was started in august 2019 and doesn't have high quality links yet
- The articles on there (about 20) are about 5000 words long, real self-written content and own images
- I was outperforming my competitors for the #0 and #1 in the SERPs since start of 2020
- These competitors are now at their top positions again
- There are no manual actions or security issues
- The website is not in English
- The decline in clicks happened over the course of about a week
- One of my other websites in this language (different niche) saw drops >50% in the same week, but recovered to its normal level at the start of April.

What could this be?

BHW won't let me embed due to my number of posts being too low I assume. This is the ss of the gsc: after the imgur domain: /a/jEf59Yc

update was 12 days ago yet still all my traffic is gone. i doubt its coming back. i would like to fix my website but i dont know how

anyone knows what this update targeted?

since may 16th, my site dropped 98% loss of traffic....
seriously google ? :|

anyone has the same fate?

Sounds like there are a lot more losers in this update than winners. But then I guess winners won't come on here to look for a fix or explanation

For sure! The winners are too busy nursing their hangovers after cracking open too many bottles of champagne over the past 10 days.
All they care about is where the headache tablets are, not what's going on at BHW.

We have also seen a MASSIVE drop, went from 1 and 2nd position to much further down. What is irritating is that those on top positions are really really shitty sites, content wise and backlink structure wise.

This update make no sense at all!!
