Google releasing a large update today

Anything but not this.

I'm finding it weird.

Generally speaking, most of my keywords are either stable or moved up (the biggest increase is from #16 to #4). There's one that had a big drop too (from #11 to #22).

At the same time, I'm experiencing a massive drop in traffic yesterday/today.

The positions dance like fuck, too, I've been checking them 3 times during the last hour and it's moving all the time.

Also completely disappeared from the first few pages. My guess is that its going to be fluctuating in the following days until the update is completely rolled out.

Guys, the update is still happening. Don't touch anything yet.

As I see it, a "broad core update" is like a complete restructuring of their positions index based on a new or updated algorithm (or even the same old algorithm, but it just refreshes the sites).

Imagine you are building a puzzle with many pieces. From time to time you rearrange the pieces one by one.

But during a "broad core update", you break the puzzle completely, and put everything together again.

This is why you are seeing newly built sites popping up on top. And just because your site didn't fit in the puzzle yet, doesn't mean you lost all your rankings. Give it another week, and then start analyzing and fixing.

Personally, the updated started on Saturday for me - my traffic jumped +30%, then yesterday my traffic fell while my AHREFS rankings increased (must be some a/b testing), today my traffic fell even more to below what it was before the initial update. I can't conclude anything yet...

for those with major drops - do you have keywords in the url or company name?

I've noticed snippets gone and some keywords being outranked by the social media posts linking to the page in UK Google.

Looks much more UK TLD focused at the moment. Let's hope they roll back this as having a pin outrank a 3000 word article is just stupid!

Every time Google update something I’m always surprised at the number of folks who don’t pay attention to the news. Guys, G said their update would roll out in full in one or two weeks. Too early to conclude anything.

Currently one of my sites (tube) has 30% down. Another one (ecommerce) 20% down. The others (with more text content) are stable.

Some positives: one of the keywords shot up from #11 to #1 :)

My best ranking keywords (one at #1 and one at #4) staying where they've been so far.

No big drops for the main keywords so far (the biggest drop is from #11 to #22).

Still, a visible drop in traffic for the last 2 days.

Same here. One site has traffic -50% with no change in keyword ranks (better if anything). Another site has 105%+ in traffic, and also no change in keyword ranks.

I haven't checked many longtails though, could be that I lost ranks there. Or that snippets was introduced to the keywords I'm ranking for. Or some new ads they've introduced.

Who knows, Google loves to steal traffic.

Google updating are just increasing day by day

Lost 10% on some keywords, others are 50% hit and some are 0% down. Site has pure content, zero outbound links for those wondering. I also did a 301 redirect 2 weeks ago, so I am pretty much on a very thin line here.

Good luck everyone.

Cheers for all the updates guys, I know we should wait for the first week or so to see the final outcomes, but interesting to hear all unique experiences. Yesterday was -20% and -30% on new and established site.

KW rankings though are essentially no change for the ones I am tracking. Maybe lost some long tail phrases?

Keen to hear more from everyone and watch this unfold over the next few days

This is sickening. For eight super competitive keywords, this site has ranked between 10-30 for years. But this week five of them have dropped out of the top hundred entirely and three are in the eighties and nineties. The only ray of 'hope' is that one that dropped 75 places in a day from 23 to 98 (between May 4/5) has pulled back two spots today to hit 96. Hoorah. :weep:
