Usually, customers/clients pay after the service has been done, so for example, I recently had my boiler repaired, the servicing company came, took a look, diagnosed the problem, got the part, replaced the part, tested the part, and all was fine. Then I got the invoice through the post.
.....On the other hand, I also took out a subscription for a service recently, and they asked for upfront payment for 30 days worth of content. Cancel anytime.
So, I think it depends on the niche, situation, and the type of service you are to provide.

I am an mobile developer and also worked on similar type of app some years ago.
It is like life coaching and self development
I was going to advertise on Craigslist and ask for PayPal payment before each session. But probably better to take your approach.

This is dropservicing and it works well if you are organized and GMB is still a good source for leads.

I would like to share an offline + online method I am using to make $70+ per day.
How I started
Four years ago I lost my job but I didn't want to go back to the 9 - 5 grind. That’s when I sat down to plan my next move and this is when the method I am about to share with you came to life.
Guide
This is not for people who don’t want to get their hands dirty.
I identified a problem: Broken down home appliances e.g stove, fridge, aircon etc=> Opportunity
Solution: I had to be a technician...BUT...
The problem: I didn’t even have a clue about how to fix appliances and no money/time to go to a technical college.
So, this what I did
I eventually found an independent technician who was struggling to get leads and I pitched my proposal.
- Posted a classified ad online looking for someone who had knowledge in fixing appliances and had their own tools.
- I asked friends to recommend a technician who was looking for work/clients
We came to an agreement that:
Most of the jobs we charge an average of $80 per gig and we do at least 3 jobs or more per day.
- I will be responsible for marketing/ acquiring leads and closing deals
- He goes out to do the job * When I am not busy I am with him as an assistant and at the same time monitoring invoices/payments
- We split the money 50/50 after expenses
Where I get leads
- I advertise via a classified website (similar to Craigslist) - FREE

wow all the back and forth on whether this post is a ripoff or not... who gives a shit? this isnt so much an IM method as it is a general, "how to start a small business" guide. not knocking the post or idea as i know first hand that the concept works and as others have said, can be applied to just about any kind of service from plumbing, to home renovation. not to mention, theres not much that requires you to remain local - after you get enough experience you can even take this business model into surrounding territories/states/etc.
heres another twist on the same concept that i started doing when i was 12/13yo - before i was in high school - my brother was trying to make some money mowing lawns but wasting 90% of his time trying to find homes to mow. so i'd just stare out the bus window on my way home every day, take note of the overgrown lawns on our route, and proposed to my brother that id give him the "leads" if hed cut me 30% of each job. he never figured out how i always knew who needed their lawn mowed (nobody ever declined getting their lawn mowed for $20-50 bucks). i never even had to talk to anyone. so yeah, he went from mowing a couple lawns a week to mowing a couple every other day (whenever he wanted to, at that point) and eventually i got two of his buddies in on the gig and had them smashing out neighborhoods. winter came and had enough to buy a snowblower, boom. same thing. it was a good couple years - good enough to buy my first (used) car when i turned 16. anywho - skys the limit!

Yes, right. you can use the concept to make money in your area.

That's a great guide, I really like it as I was thinking about starting about a similar business, and now I got the clear image. I might go with that method, but I will scale it a little bit as I will go with a full team instead of a single person, but idk how to manage the team and know how to charge the clients... I will start once i figure out all of that.
