All I hope is that I think of others at least 40% of the time. I would like to think higher, but if I am honest, I still put my family first most of the time and I am working on the other 60%. I would hope that if I had a $billion I would think of others at least 40% of the time, after all $600m is a huge amount of family time to enjoy!

In my opinion Bill Gates is not the good example
At first he copied idea from an Apple.
Later, when his "Bing" not was able to find the results - they copied in the real time results from Google.
Also, I never heard any wise sentence said by Bill Gates. Do you know any?

Charles Caleb Colton seems to have understood the market nearly 200 years ago when he penned "Imitation is the sincerest [form] of flattery", Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg et al have taken that premise and made billions from taking technology and making it better.

As IM'ers, don't we all do the same, every single day of the week?

As for a Bill Gates 'wise sentence' as you put it, how about the one below.

"We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve."

Didn't Facebook take the Myspace & Friends Reunited ideas and make them better? Didn't Google and Samsung take Apple ideas and improve on them? Don't Apple do the same now? Competition drives productivity and innovation after all.

Perhaps you are pining after Nokia. Personally, I got an old 3510 from Ebay last year, great zombie apocalypse phone.

The question is: what created Bill Gates what not was a copy?
He didn't had any original idea in compare to Steve Jobs or Lary Page.

Larry Page created the most known for SEO community - the PageRank algorithm.
Steve Jobs created age of smartphones and tablets. (after he died - Apple haven't any ideas myself)

Over 10 years of Windows XP patches and service packs (much more GB than the XP installation CD)
Where in the same time, Apple team created the software which work much faster on much worse hardware.

And this is why people pay a lot for Apple phones - because it's the symbol of the quality.
Microsoft never will achieve it. And for this reason after simple logo change - demand has disappeared near immediately.

I'll cite bellow the Warren Buffett sentence:

"Of the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them.
If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars."

Buffett said also, that he sent only the one email message in his life. It was to Microsoft.
As the result he was invited to court of law. So I am pretty sure that he had on mind exactly the Bill Gates.

I am agree - it was part of Apple success.
But much more important - if you have really good product - marketing is the tool to say to the world: I have got it!

I love the quality, marketing not changing nothing here - except that I know about something new.
Where "know" not mean "purchasing"

For this reason I am agree with Warren Buffett about some billionaire jerks.
Personally for me - Bill Gates is one of them.

Especially when they created from scratch their Kingdom with their own ideas and passions.

But it not mean automatically that we need to appreciate everyone.
Especially when Bill Gates become the billionaire only for the reason that Steve Jobs was born.

Bill Gates wasn't able to understand it.

Personally I am learning only from the best ones.

I learnt 25 years ago that I do not need to be smart enough or put the effort in to find the next method, I just have to be smart enough to see when others do. Then put my twist on it and bank.

if you want to significantly increase the effectivity - you should use better tactic, instead of copy it.

Also I can't understand why in your opinion is something wrong with learning from the most successful people experience.

You do seem riled up about both me and Bill (I wish I had his money). I have answered every one of your questions so far, so let this be the last, as your posts are making less sense as we go along.

Shakespeare's line in As You Like It, is just as applicable to business and billionaires as it is to both you and I.

“The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.”​

Explanation

• Only a fool would think himself wise enough, or consider himself a wise man, whereas a wise man thinks himself as a fool because he understands the concept that there is always more to know and more to learn.

Personally, I hope that I am a fool, as there is always more to learn in business. Hence my comment of learning what others do and adding my twist.

Not sure what your twist is, as all you have said is that you do not like Bill Gates.

That is your prerogative, but as an aside, it would be nice if you acknowledged answers to your questions.
