Yup, "content is king" is over-hyped. It's just a trend where everyone becomes an expert by repeating the mantra.

I remember discussing this with someone, who claimed content is king because Income school says so. I showed him a high profit keyword on Google where the result on position #3 was a forum. That forum was about computers and the keyword was about private finances. The thread was useless and of very low quality. All other positions on the SERP were highly informative and relevant.

If you talk about content, I would never use eCommerce sites as an example. G doesn't rank eCommerce sites based on content.

It´s not appropriate to diminish the importance of content based on an authoritative eCommerce website. They have already build a brand for themselves and they rank based on that. They don´t NEED content in order to rank.

Look at it from googles perspective, what do they want? Their users to stay on google. How do they do that? Search intent. Its the reason you don't use Bing or Yahoo, because google provide better results. If you match the users search intent for an article better than anyone else, you are ranking number one.

If you notice, in googles search console, you will see the odd day every few months where your impressions spike. This is google testing your search intent.

Agree, but Income School is great and realistic for beginners. I’m still agreeing with you most people will take the info as law, instead of branching out. If you decide to go their route of need to stick it to one project and still experiment. Income School just posted something about EAT I figured out on my own 2-years ago before I even heard of them.

King is content indeed. Content will help you rank, how big the article is, if it actually is helpful, user intent, bounce rate, CTR all affect your rank in Google, however, the real reason why content is king is because it's what will turn a reader into a buyer.

Ranking #1 doesn't matter at all if you can't convert people to get you the money.
