This Is Why Content Is Not The King

Links are king, content is queen. Both are required to stay in the game for long term.

Satisfying the intent is the king. Make yourself through it.
Sometimes content is what satisfies the intent. Not always.

Do you need a 1K words article to answer the distance between Melbourne and Sydney?

Content is good, and will help you rank. There are lots of other factors in ranking!

Yes, Google is a dubious player that hides all the relevant ranking information. But from my years doing this stuff, well-structured lengthy, high-quality content wins at the end.

I do come across sites with questionable content strategy and in due time, they simply vanish like smoke on a windy day.

If you "WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING, YOU'LL NOT HAVE TIME TO DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO RANK"

Also, that site you exposed might be owned by a member of this forum. The last thing we want is for everyone to start posting URLs of websites with thin content and questionable backlinking strategy.
Is that you? xD

Content is an important piece of SEO. Onsite + Off site factors are both important.

1) 17k Alexa Rank , ranking for 52k keywords..

2) Absolutely no content.

3) You can keep scrolling all day and you will still keep more products.

Some one should do a case study.
which site are you referencing and maybe I can do a study?

Content is not the only factor that Google checks, they are based on different metrics which they only know for sure. With google we are playing a cat and mouse game, we win at times we miss most of the time.

Its true. Everything Google is praising is a joke and should be ignored. They released at least three algo updates in the last three months. Nobody has any clue what the fuck is going on.

Here is what happened to me: I built some great and content rich websites for specific niches. They were in the Top 3. Why? Because there were simply no better sites. My content was better, my links are better etc. What happened after the latest update? My sites were sent straight to page 2-4.

This is what bothers me: Google now just places YouTube videos in the Top 5. So basically they are redirecting the traffic from Google to YouTube (to their own company). The rest of page 1 is full of spam. Guys who used spun content on high authority sites like Medium.com.

All my hard work, all the time I spent writing content is being replaced with some useless shit and YouTube videos. This shit makes me angry and I know many of you feel the same way. Now here is the bigger problem: If you run a SEO agency...good luck explaining your client what the fuck just happened and why spam is ranking better. You have no explanation, because Google gives no explanation. I highly doubt these guys know what they are doing. At least for me they totally fucked up the serps.

It's basically the hammacher schlemmer of the internet. I get hammacher schlemmer magazines just to look through them because of how cool some of the shit is. It's addicting.

I don't know a ton about seo (yet!) But after clicking on the site I stayed there scrolling and looking around for a solid 5 minutes. That curiosity of "what's next" or "fomo" if I don't keep going keeps me going. I'm assuming the length that a visitor stays on the site is pretty important as well as what they click on. Also googling it there's a ton of other websites that have articles breaking down that website, so I guess those links help a ton too?

that site is not purely relying on google for traffic i have resold some stuff from that site and where i found about it is from an email blast years ago

It is kind of funny how Google behaves these days.

I was reading just a recent that duplicate contents are ranking too on Google these days.

Where is the Panda update? I don't know I guess...

This is good analogy. Links are king, as in they have power to push u up the SERPs. Content is queen, as in people always love queens more than kings, so theyre more likely to visit the "kingdom"

They try to convince you to focus on content and buy more length articles
Then website like this get ranked without any content or very short one

Like many said, huge brand, attracts links.... But yeah content is only king if you do not want to build any links at all. KGR and all, and for people naturally sharing your site so you become a brand, and can then write less...

Can you send the Reddit AMA link?

Really ??

Content is only king as Google got better at detecting spam from amateurs, while sophisticated spam still ranks&banks. So the average user falls for content is king and then realizes, crap I am not ranking for this ultra-competitive keyword with my content....
However, you can of course rank for stuff(KGR and all) without links, so in that context content is king as you do not build (well if you do not choose to) any links

I don't get this site. It is basically thumbnails and affiliate links. That is the entire site.
