An example is if you use an exact match of [movie trailers] - It states you would only get around 388 clicks a month from 14,000 impressions a month, from all countries. Let's be realistic, a LOT more than 14,000 people search for "movie trailers" in Google every month.

Their average searches a month for that keyword show as around 165,000.

The biggest reasons this method isn't any use is because Google Ads doesn't trigger an ad everytime someone searches for something. Country related, budgets being depleted etc.

No use at all? Hardly.

There are definitely exceptions. Keywords that people don't bid on.

Luckily, these are the keywords you don't really wanna rank for most of the time.

Keywords with multiple ads going constantly for long time tend to be much more accurate.

Obviously Google knows more about Google, but they're also working actively against us knowing anything useful. Ahrefs is a pretty good estimate in my experience.

Is google actively working against people who do SEO, so that they buy ads? does this apply to people doing google ads as their main traffic source?

Also @tiiberius, is this accurate for people trying to run ads for these kw's? If it is accurate for people running adwords, then surely that ruins ahrefs and other tools because a shit ton of kw's won't show worthy enough search volume and as a byproduct cause those people to miss out on some great niches?

This is AdWords (G Ads) tool. It's meant for advertisers. So is the keyword tool. It's just that SEOs are using it as well. It's not meant for them.

Ahrefs and such tools are better in a way that they focus on organic search. For example, Ahrefs will give you estimates of how many people who search, actually click on organic results which can be priceless for certain keywords.

Last time I used paid browser extension Keywords Everywhere, it cost $10 to get data for 100K keywords.

It doesn't matter if you want to check for SEO or PPC purposes.

Ahrefs is good for search volume and it also gives tons of organic data like top competitors and their links etc.

Yes, scaling this is a problem.

Keywords Everywhere seems to be way off when it comes to volumes. I would consider real numbers to be half of what it shows to have real expectations.

Ahrefs' keyword tool is a great middle way. Quite accurate and large lists of keywords are no problem.
