SEO help - duplicate content? (United companies)

Hi!

I am in the situation I would be thankful for the SEO advice.

We have a client who bought 2 companies. Right now, the client wants to bring it together and say - "ok - these 2 companies are ours."
We are working on their career sites so - "If you want to work for this company, you have to understand we own it and you are working for us."

He wants the career sites of those 2 companies to be the same - change it on the same style (of the main company), show it is theirs, same texts, pages, just different jobs, and branches. They want it like this because of the google positions etc..

But for me, it doesn't make a sense. Isnt there going to be a problem because of the duplicate content? ( + I don't think this is the right way to show your brand - one good site with everything is always better than two same sites - change my mind? )

I thought it would make a better sense to buy a new domain like - job.xxxx.com (the main company name) and there would be shown the other 2 companies - maybe one of the sites could be redirected to the main site ( I think it's bad to redirect 2 sites on the one domain - or not? )

What would you recommend to do?

Merging both the sites is not a problem, but it it better to buy a new domain and try ranking both your sites for different keywords.this will help you rank your your site for different keywords.

Thanks for the answer. You mean to buy a new domain and put the content here, as I said? I don't think it is the best to keep both sites - they would be almost the same - same KWs, design, texts... only a few different job offers.
