Hi guys, I been trying to start my projects, however, always end up procrastinating. My longest stint of procrastination has been just over a year, and it sucks because I feel like I've achieved nothing. My issue is I am always distracted, youtube, games, sleep, gym and everything but working on my projects. How do you guys deal with this?

No solution of this, unless you are in big trouble and know that, If you didn't complete it on time, you are going to loose something.

Create a comfortable environment where you can work without any distraction. Set target and run towards it.

For me it was always a problem not getting the work done because of other things that seemed more important or because i just thought that i could do these things tomorrow.
My personal solution was to create an environment where i just work and to have a clear routine. Before that i worked from home (where i also sleep, eat, chill ...) So i always had these things in my mind as i could just step away from my computer and chill 15 minutes with my phone then another 15 minute then another 20 minutes till the complete day was wasted.
My solution for your would be to et an office where you just work and put away your phone so you have no option to think about wasting your day.

Perhaps I will try this approach and go to a coffee shop and focus, my desk is very messy and full of distractions at the moment sigh...

Hello. I am new here and my first post, but couldn’t resist commenting on the topic. Something that has really helped me with procrastination is write your habbits down. Write your schedule down first thing in the morning, you won’t believe the amount of organisation it brings in your life.

My way of dealing with procrastination is to visit YouTube and start watching videos of people in the next vacation destination I want to visit, and doing something similar to what I'd want to be doing. Usually after three or four videos, I'm ready to work. At that point, I get water, snacks, and then put my phone in airplane mode and place it face down outside of reaching distance. I then let some motivational speaker speak in the background of one tab, play some very low volume deep house music in another tab, and then use any other opened tabs for productivity.

Set aside dedicated time each day to get something done. Make a task list of what you need to accomplish and each day tackle a task. At the end of your allocated time make sure you know what you are working on for the next time so you are not wasting time trying to figure out what to work on.
It takes around 21 days to form a new habit and then it will feel like a natural part of your life, just like you do with gym, YouTube, games, etc...

Every day.. then I had to fool her. I Moved my office that was in my house and rent a little one, away from everything, so that nothing distracts me. I put a phone for urgents thinks only my wife have the number of that cell phone, my personal phone is disconnect during the hours I am there. I do not attend to anyone who visits me, friends included.. Only work. The day before I make a list of tasks, because it happens to me that when I start the day I forget half of them. Last night I had for a strange reason, I remember what I should do the next day.
And until I do not do all my homework I do not leave there. If I did not get to compete it, I self-imposed ill not going to play soccer with my friends, it is a very hard for me, but before all that, if I am about to abandon daily tasks, I wrote a note of why I should finish Work., is basically about the future of my children and what I want for my life. I assure you that I always finish everything. So I fight against procastrination every f... Ing Day.
But when i finish, that make me happy.
A psychiatrist over here? ...

Look for coworking spaces. There are many people who work as freelancers or run their own business. You can also network in these places and find good business partners.

Find a project that you are passionate about. If you have been struggling to start working on your "project" for a year, it simply means that it does not mean anything to you and that you are not excited to work on it. (no other explanation possible, sorry).
Even if you plan a fixed amount of time per day to spend on it, you will most likely not like it and lose interest, otherwise you would have started already.
Simply find a "project" that you are excited about and WANT to work on, instead of feeling you HAVE / SHOULD have to work on, it's a huge difference. Clearly you are not in a position where your external environmen puts you in a position to make you move; which in 1 thing is good, as it means that life is good. On the other hand being in a shitty situation and having to find a solution can be a great motivator to get of your ass and do things.
It may also mean that you are insecure about your capabilities and feel that you are not the type of person that does this stuff or that you are not good enough to do it. It's very normal, but the only way to get over it is to get experience and make baby steps. Don't look at your project as a whole but break it down in small bits that you can do.

I'm trying to get rid of some unproductive "hobbies" like video games and watching tv shows while also trying to get into more worthwhile hobbies like going to the gym, reading books or even playing guitar. Even though I am procrastinating while doing these hobbies it doesn't feel so bad there is also something to gain from these activities. Ditching social media is also a must.

first thing that you should do after waking up is
1. watch you face
2. push your self, and straight working on your project task
that's how I do.
once i complete first task, it give me motivation and adrenaline boost to work on my project more
unless
i wakeup, watching netflix... and that's it. i will kill my motivation to do any of my project task
