Increase Keyword Ranking Advice - New Site

Hi Guys

So I'd like to pick your brains.

Lets say I have a fairly new site (several months old), selling TVs (for example) and have done the following so far:

1. Added 10 articles
2. Added Products to the website
3. Set up some Web2.0s
4. Some on Page SEO

And now I'm looking to target the following keywords

"Best TV 2019"
"Cheap TVs"

What would you recommend I do next as I'm struggling on the next steps in terms of what to do and how to link the site up (also any advice in general would be appreciated):

1. Should I create several articles targetting my keywords and then point the articles to the products or categories page?

2. Should I create several articles per keyword?

3. Should I get backlinks with the keywords as anchor text?

I'm cautious that as it's a new site, I don't want to send too many backlinks to it and trigger the wrath of Google

IMHO, You've done the major basics needed in creating relevancy with first 4 tasks listed above .

Creating articles on targeted keywords is a way to go.

Does this have to do with product reviews? something like Amazon affiliate website? Why don't you review the products on the same page? Just like the traditional way of doing amazon affiliate website. Sending traffic to a new warm page before purchase could reduce your conversion rate.

This would lead to keyword cannibalization ; A practice you don't want to indulge in. Moreover, you have already supporting contents, you only need to work with deep linking to make juice flow.

This is a wide topic as you don't overoptimize your anchor to save yourself from penalties on big G update.

My site is only a few months old. Actually read a post by Webminati, in which he said that adding backlinks to a new site are fine as long as you keep the rate of acquiring backlinks consistent and remove any spammy links (disavow through Google is necessary) but I'll look to use a tiered approach with my links.

Well. You can build the Backlinks, but do it in natural way.

If your keyword is low competition, web2. 0, pbn, blog comments, social bookmarks, forum posting. But if it is competitive, build strong links

My keywords are a mixture of strong and weak so I’m targetting the less competitive keywords first and as my domain grows stronger, I should be able to target the more competitive ones.

What's the age of your website.

Exact anchor texts wont look natural.
I believe if have for example 100 backlinks around 10% should be an exact match anchor text.

If you go with white hat links, you generally don't have to worry about anchor text optimization as the links look natural to Google. Although to obtain white hat links other webmasters will mostly link to informative articles on your site only and not to product pages.

You can still rank your product pages though. Just link your product pages from your informative articles that are getting links and it will still pass link juice.

So to answer your first question, yes you should create several informational keywords and point them to your product pages, but also build links to those informational articles.

For your second question, it depends on the keyword. If your keyword is best camping gear for hikers than you shouldn’t do more than one article. But if the keyword is camping tips than you can do a few articles as long as you provide value. For example, one article is about camping tips during cold weather, the other is camping tips for boy scouts, that sort of thing.

For your third question, depends on how you're getting backlinks. Whitehat methods are safer but you generally do not control the anchor text, which is fine as it still passes juice.

For greyhat or blackhat, I would not use the same anchor text more than once, especially if it's a long tailed keyword as it won’t look natural to Google.

when you say you have done on-page optimization, how did you figure what you needed to optimize? did you figure out the optimization points based on doing analysis of top 3 sites for your primary keywords? meaning figuring out number of words, keyword density, usage of H tags, etc.

if not, then you really need to do this. a good place to start is to get yourself a CORA report or POPS (pageoptimizer pro)

I think I might have got carried away a bit and maybe used more keyword specific anchor text. I'll double check my web2.0s and maybe change the texts within the links just to be safe as it is still a new site.

I've been spending the last week updating the links within my site so I've got my 'focus' pages and relevant pages linking to them. This appears to be having a positive effect on my keywords as they are moving up in Google. I'll be updating the content across the site to ensure that I haven't got any pages with less than 400-500 words (aiming for around 800 minimum but main issue at the moment is getting the time).

and for the total count, just do simple ctrl + a of the site, go to word and do paste special / text. this way you get total word count, alt text of images included, and also the number of the times your keyword is mentioned across your page and also the competitors.
