I do.

But look back at predictions made 10-20 years ago - even AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, movie that made this topic mainstream, featured scientists and studies that determined the polar ice caps would be melted...by now. 3 years ago actually.

People are often intimidated by just the idea of someone being a scientist. Working around similar types, coders, engineers - they screw up, need help, get things wrong CONSTANTLY.

So yes its happening but their models predicting what's next are virtually meaningless to me. Often they can't get the temperature prediction for 2 days from now right, i'm not following that up with "so how about 10 years?"/

Based on percentage of green house gas emissions, US, China and India holds top 3 positions. First and second are not third world. Where ever possible to change can change. It will help them to reduce gas imports which helps their economy as well..
I'm not talking about right now, I'm talking that they have free cards for pollution because they're developing countries. Nigeria, india etc have huge amounts of population and are rapidly growing both pop wise and economic. In 25 to 50 years they're the ones that will have the big footprints.

I wasn't talking about the solution, just the reasons.

But if we talk about solutions, for one, the world doesn't have to stop producing CO2, there are advanced methods to store it underground in rocks perfectly safe. There are more than one way to deal with it en mass, the technology is ready.

One electric car won't make a difference, but when there are many electric cars like in Norway, that does. When most cars will run on green energy, that will be the ideal, but i guess, one step at a time. Now they sell more new electric cars there than regular ones. That's an extreme example and not many country can pull this stunt off, but they did it.
Gasoline is piss cheap in such a developed country as the US, still, Tesla is outperforming traditional car manufacturers, when it comes to new car sales. And this happened in a matter of years. Something has definitely started.

Climate change is a complex issue. In the US transportation is responsible for around 30% of greenhouse gases produced by man, around 3/4 of that is coming from cars. You see, even if every car would be electric from tomorrow, that would mean only 20% less greenhouse gas emmission, which is not a too big number and won't happen, but every little percentage counts.

Switching to electric cars is not the most important thing to do, cars are not the main culprit, but a start.

Everything starts in the head. If everyone thinks like you, nothing will change, if more and more people start to think different than you, that's when increasing trends can slow down or even change.
And those green cars are produced and ran on non-green energy. It's useless, only looks good on paper. And storing co² in rocks? How's that gonna make anyone profit? And if it doesn't make profit scratch it cuz it ain't happening.

Hydro Electricity is of most greenest form and even solar..

I believe in global warming and climate change. Interested to do something about it. As a contribution to reduce greenhouse gases from my side, I am driving hybrid car (mostly drive in electric mode) and using electric stoves. Willing to go for solar panels or something like tesla solar roof when possible.

Interested to know, what BHW mates think about it..

I'll just set this right here:

Hope I didnt burst your warm fuzzy do good for the environment feelings :p We should always try to protect mother earth as much as possible, but this whole Global warming diatribe is a very well propagated get rich scheme. 48-54 million years ago the earth was warmer for a period of time than what it is now (see here: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/global-warming/early-eocene-period ). Climate does in fact change, but these are natural processes that happen regardless of human interaction or not. It has fluctuated for millions and millions of years.

impossible to ignore, but don't believe all you see on the news. it's a great topic to sidetrack real development to solve the issue at its root.

I feel the scientists are compromised because they are funded by government. If they do not toe the line, they lose their funding.
Governments are broke and need more tax revenue. If they convince us about a threat that a tax can fix they will do it.

Global warming? Dunno, was it hotter when the dinosaurs were around - yup, more CO2 back then? Yup. So basically the climate changes due to solar activity, volcanoes, etc. Do we humans affect it - yup. Will a tax solve it - no, not in a million years

We have a solution.... Give us your money and you will feel warm and fuzzy on the inside while we misappropriate your money for other things.

Biggest scam of the last 30 years, still propagating. Some how giving the government extra tax revenue while making it more costly for people to drive and live (remember it costs money and gas to transport foods and other goods), is the solution. lmfao, what a big joke. And millions of people are so fooled by this propaganda.

What can we consider green energy? Is nuclear energy green? Switching to green energy is not enough in itself, the power grid in its present state can't supply many electric cars (nowhere close to the number of regular cars), it simply couldn't take the load. This will be a longer process, nothing will happen from one day to another. We are in an early stage of this whole electric car thing, batteries are still pretty primitive, Li-ion battery is not something we will see in the electric cars of the future, hopefully close future. Solid-state battery technology will replace the liquid/polymer electrolyte technology found in Li-ion batteries now. Solid-state batteries can be charged more faster, have a higher energy density and are not flammable. The only downside is that they're expensive to produce, at least for now.

There are different methods to deal with CO2, storing it in rocks is just one of those.

Wake up fella it's always about the money. Hydrogen is much better than electric cars, you don't have these battery issues and waste. But it's less profitable at this point, simple as that.

I believe Shell have already come up with Hydrogen..

Germany is still building coal factories and government money is still invested worldwide into fossil fuels. And that's in Europe where we're on top of the "green" game.
Asia doesn't give much fucks and developing 3rd world countries certainly don't. And guess where your batteries & solar panels are produced.
You want clean air in your neighborhood? Good go electric & solar. Wanna do something about the planet's climate? Start a green company that produces local through green energy. Not like that drip is gonna matter but at least you're doing it the right way then.

Of course, how else would the technology exist if nobody tried it. That's what companies do, they invest in technologies! Who would've thought. But why is electric being marketed so damn hard? Cuz it's the most profitable!

There is something called as energy debt period. Say the energy used to produce, transport and install a solar panel will be retrieved back in 2 years by the energy produced by the solar panel. So, rest 20+ years the energy produced by the solar panel is greener..

Highly recommend not having children
It's sad in the world if people decide to not have children out of fear of the future. Might as well end it now, because not having kids isn't going to help the world "heal", it's going to make people forget about selflessness and the world will be a scary place without innocents.

And then the solar panel is at its end of life. So then we take our trucks and ships and dump it on a 3rd world country and can start the next marketing trick to tax all the waste.
Remember 15 years ago when the world was going to end cuz we were cutting trees? At school we had to use that brown recycled paper, we had to use plastic bags cuz paper was bad. When's the last time you've seen that recycled paper cuz I know for me it's been a long time. And now were starting to make everything that we made plastic back into paper. So then we can complain about trees again and start raising taxes and cry about that again. Man you're on an IM forum, do you really not see it?

We are in lounge. Also, average life of solar panels are more than 25 years now..

My brother in law owns a solar company, I'm well aware of it. They use new metal components they dig out in 3rd world countries destroying the eco systems, it's put between glass plates and it's not recyclable. Worse than the previous generation in terms of getting rid of the waste.
