Instagram will remove Likes

Recently Mark Zuckerberg made an announcement that Facebook will focus on privacy more than anything else in the future. Obviously to save the company from all the bad reputation but seriously havig privacy and Zuckerberg in the same sentence makes me laugh.
Messenger and Whatsapp will slowly merge in the near future.

The main updates will be a new layout of facebook, much alike to Twitter's, and the removal of Like in posts.

The idea is that while users will still be able to like posts, either the number of likes nor the list of users who liked the post will be visible to anyone but the owner of the post.

I believe that likes will still play an important role in the Instagram's algorithm of what posts show up in your feed and explore page, yet SMM panels will get a hit as likes will become less important and don't get me started how botting will become a real pain in the ass.

Given all their actions to get rid of bots and privacy concerns that have gotten people to use Facebook less and less these days, it might be reasonable that if not exactly a likes hide, something similar is not to crazy to think of being implemented.

They would have to convince the world that numbers are not important on posts. But, I think they will have a hard time doing this...

The likes will still be visible to the one who posted them but people will always want to show off, beside getting their stamina of being instagram famous

They made this change in beta version around a week ago. I asked around 20 people I know. Only 2 of them use Instagram trying to grow; others are casual users. Everyone said that they would not see a point in using Instagram any longer and hope that other better platform will emerge if this is implemented. I guess we'll see what happens...

Instagram is here to stay for a long time.
Maybe hiding likes will become the norm as companies are being more aware towards social impacts. Take Samsung and Apple who encourage users to spend less time on their phones.
They will lower the time spent, and increase the quality of that time.

Only time will tell, but they've tested this before. Mark Zuckerberg can try as hard as he can to act like he's in a new phase in his life where he doesn't care about likes, but he does indeed care profit and likes equal profit.

It'll also be easier to fake engagement now, as that will depend on people sharing their numbers

Can imagine how many "fake IG likes viewers" will come out

They'll be shooting themselves in the foot which is way they are toe testing the deep end before drowning themselves hah

I never said it is doomed, just that casual users I spoke to want a new platform without Zuckerberg
They told me that there is no point in watching photos if they cannot see who of their friends liked them. They also like to go to the most popular posts and critique them for how such a low quality post could get viral (in some cases). Removing number of likes and ability to see what their friends like would force them to stop using the platform since simply watching photos is boring and there is no incentive to like something (except photos of their real life friends to not piss them off ).
I'm just sharing a viewpoint of people who use the platform as the majority do. Here, we are all interested in gaining something from it and our viewpoints can be different. Maybe other people have opinions of their friends and want to share them too

I don't think it will be a issue for new creators.
Now, people tend to check something base on the number of engagement. If a post has low number of likes, they will say pass and is hard for new guys to get noticed using white hat methods.
If this gets implemented, they will get rid of this preconception about post that has a lot of engagement are good info/quality.
Second, panels will not have any issue since this numbers will still matter in ranking algorithm.
Nothing new or WOW by doing this change.

Outside of communities like this one, for blatantly obvious reasons, this has actually been getting a ton of positive feedback from users. One of the reasons that Facebook claims they decided to implement this, is because of the growing depression epidemic that's tied to social media. Which, depression rates are now astronomical and quite a significant portion of that has been tied to the dopamine effect post "likes."

Everyone from teenage girls, to artist, to businesses, can breathe a sigh of relief if their picture doesn't get over a certain number of likes. And let's not kid ourselves, content isn't necessarily always king. 9 times out of 10, it's just not. No matter how good it is, you have to do something truly unique to stand out.

It's mostly marketing. Which is precisely why we do what we do, and why there is an ungodly amount of money to be made from it. There are so many fantastic content creators out there, such as photographers that take amazing photos, in which no matter how good their stuff is, will never go viral, and will never hit triple digit likes. Removing a public like counter, will take away a lot of that anxiety with posting, thus leading to more content, and more time on the platform from users.

And influencers are going to be totally unfazed by this. They can just share their metrics like webmasters.
