Currently I'm only getting 10% followback rate max

I think my:
- Profile pictures are good
- name is good
- post quality is good
- captions are okay

I follow around 400 people a day per account but only see like 20 - 40 following me back
What could this be?

Change the targeting accounts
it's the main factor

If your account is quality & well defined, then its definitely just the target sources.
With that said, 10% is normal & nothing to fret over. You can definitely get the Ratio higher by tweaking small things.

If you can optimize those small things & get the right target sources, you can see a FBR of over 20-50%
I have accounts whose worse day is 40% on fewer actions.
I have accounts who I restrict to only 200 follows a day getting 160 followers.
I have accounts whose best day is 10% despite being more renounced within the niche.

It all depends but the profile optimizations & of course the mood of the people you are following for the follow-back.

It also depends on the niche.
Also as others said, Target sources
How the Account looks

The poll options over 30% are useless. And 1-10% is too broad - the difference between a 1% followback rate and 8% is huge.

Wow does everyone here really settle for a 10% FBR?

10% is acceptable, but if you have good content and an optimized profile (which it sounds like you have) 20-30% is not out of reach...

Do some more serious target research or pay someone to do it for you. It will help TONS in the long run

I have started yesterday with Instagram so far i've sent out 300 follows which resulted in 22% return follows.

Thanks for the answers! Do you have tips / methods to target the right people?

I agree, my bad sorry!

Firstly focus on targeting. This depends on way too many factors btw

It mostly depends on the accounts that you are following.

If they are niche-related and are likely to be interested in your account then you will have a much higher follow-back rate.
Next would be your account and the quality of the content you are putting out.

Make sure that the accounts you follow would actually be likely to follow you back and show strong interest in your niche.

your name and profile photo is #1 it has to grab the attention and make the user want to check your account from the follow notification

a shitty name and pic will result in bad ratio

Planning ahead for each project (no matter what project) is always going to save you a lot of time ahead.

A good profile photo, bio, captions on posts, right hashtags, staying in contact with DM's, is a must.

Nevertheless, growth can vary in very interesting way - i.e.: I have several accounts –"fan pages"– sending followers to the main account who are indeed following the same kind of accounts –hundreds spread over all of them– and the results are different, like a 40% of difference among them. The answer is I don't know why, but they all remain into a nice follow back rate.

For me it is easy to get 100 followers per day. 20% above or bellow just makes things even among them.

If you are not getting this kind of growth it may be because your niche is tough to grow, in which case what matters is if it is still being profitable enough or it should be dropped and just move on.

Don't stay fixed to a niche if it's not working for you.

Start a new plan and move on.

.

targeting is everything, also how popular that niche right now is.

Can anybody with high follow-back rate expand a little on what filters or criteria they use?
Like source profile size, followers/following ratio, min or max number of followers and followings, following private accounts or not, etc.
Thanks!

It all depends on the Niche and Targeting. All of my accounts have an average of 50%+ follow-back rate and know what I haven't uploaded a single content into any of them.

that is like the worst as they didnt followback because of your content but just because of the typical "oh yeah i will followback" shit

1. Follow user that have picture
2. Find the best locations, profiles, hashtags that are the target of your content. Content and target counts a lot !
3. Ignore users that has more than 3.000 followings. They are probably using automation and will unfollow you in the future.
4. Ignore Business users

That will increase your rate on 20%
