You should use both. Instagram often outperforms Facebook for eCommerce
I have personally never worked with an eCommerce product more than $200. However the process would be the exact same and I would very surprised if you couldn't get a profitable ROI with proper customer data.

Highly dependent on the industry and price range of the product service. Generally though it is lead magnet to a cold audience, then retargeting and autoresponder followups to sell.

Those services use hacked FB ad accounts to run ads on
All engagement is good engagement, even angry comments. The only thing that will reduce reach is if people click the little arrow dropdown and report the ad.

Pardon me if this is a nooby question,
Assuming my cloaking is good and FB approves every ad of mine.
If I want to setup a dating offer ad on FB, what would you
advise me to target for? I am talking about audience insights here.
Also US/UK/CA/AU/NZ as geos.
What would be the pointers I need to look at to make my ad
most-laser targeted?

Select one country to start testing with. I would recommend any but the US.
Use the Audience Insights tool, starting with interests like dating websites (Plenty of Fish, Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, okcupid, zoosk, eHarmony, etc.)
Create a spreadsheet of potential Interests that most correlate with your offer.
Create campaign with 5-10 ad sets, each with an individual interest within.
Within each ad set create 3-5 individual ad variations.
After 3-5 days of testing, figure out which Interests and ads are performing best. Disable the ones that aren't.
Use the 'View Charts' function under each ad set to see which demographics and platforms are performing best. Duplicate the ad set and target only your best performers.
If performance is stable or improves, double your budget and continue testing,

Hey first of all thanks a lot for taking the time and run this AMA thread about FB ads. Can you share what are the best resources (both free and paid ones) to learn FB ads from? I willbe launching a print on demand site and i would like to learn as much as possible on how to maximize every dollar i invest in promoting my designs with FB ads targeting audiences more effectively. YouTube and blogs are good, I recommend AdEspresso's blog. However you will learn 5000%+ more in your first week running campaigns yourself then you will from anything you can read or watch.

2 questions.
A. Do you import custom list for creating custom audience or lookalike audience? How risky for fb to ban you if the list is not from you, i. e buying or scraped list.
B. Will fb just ban the problematic ad on the ad account which promoted this ad? Or the whole business ad account?

A. Yes I do for both. I've never had any problems or heard of anyone being banned for this.
B. If it's just 1 ad they will just disapprove it. Repeated infractions will get your whole ad account banned.

The ideal range for a lookalike audience 1,000-4,000 (according to a Facebook engineer). The more specific the list, the better, ie. A list of your 1,000 best, high order-value customers will always outperform a list of 3,000 of all your previous customers.

Hi Thanks for doing this. If it's for a B2B enterprise space, would you still recommend Facebook ads?
Targeting based on interest etc won't be as accurate. Job titles, seniority, company size etc would be more relevant. However, it's not a strong targeting option on Facebook.
Currently, i'm running linkedin ads because these options are available there. And then building custom/retargeting audiences on facebook once they've been pixelled after they arrive from my linkedin ads. I'm also trying to get personal emails from Linkedin via pipl to build a fb custom audience but that's not scalable.
Besides, Linkedin is expensive and not everyone is as active on linkedin.
