Facebook is to develop its own cryptocurrency

It's gona be centralized and controlled by FB. It's just using the name "cryptocurrency" for its hype.

This is no different from casino gaming chips.

Wish them the best, but is there something Facebook is not telling us?
Crypto is falling hard, and they're still building theirs since May?

I am in favour of this initiative as it would add another payment option for internet marketers.
Why do people still need another means of payment? We already have PayPal, WebMoney, crypto and many other means of online payments.
So I don't think that people really need payments through Facebook which is not the most reliable service at all.

The only interesting part of this was the rumour they were developing it on 0x. With that now debunked I can't see this happening anytime soon.

The next contender would be ETH but scaling is way off on that so what then? Their own chain with the messenger clients all acting as POS nodes? No chance. Untested. Untrusted.

There are too many cryptocurrencies on the market.
This fact wouldn't stop producing of new cryptocurrencies. Everyone, who interested in it is trying to launch the BEST, cuz this sphere is like an unexplored ocean for all of us.

Make WhatsApp great again? Nice try,but...WhatsApp now isn't popular messenger at the market.

Think it's a damn good idea if it's true...

I close a lot of sales on Messenger so if there is an option to pay securely and instantly on there then damn.....

If they added this to Instagram as well.......there is alot of business to be made there too!

WhatsApp is one of the top messengers, among with telegram and viber, it is popular

Hey guys, I really choked over this news https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/21/18151469/facebook-cryptocurrency-whatsapp-transfers-cash-money-stablecoin.
Facebook is building a cryptocurrency designed to make it easier to transfer money on WhatsApp.
It is reportedly looking to develop what’s known as a “stablecoin" at least as far back as May. Around that time, Facebook Messenger leader David Marcus was reassigned to lead a new blockchain division, focused on exploring “how to best leverage Blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”
What do you think about fb crypto idea?
For me it's quite ridiculous for this crappy messenger to use blockchain technology.

Funny joke! Messenger and crypto.
I was met something like that before.
Still I believe nothing is good with that.

I don't think it will be an actual 'crypto'.. won't buy drugs with it anytime soon lol
But still, good news

Good to see big dogs adopting blockchain ideas, even though the idea of crypto is to be a big middle finger to the big dogs.

Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19b. Guess it's time to make that money back.

Of course it's true. And I think it's a good/logic thing to do.
Facebook knows what's up. Telegram is also working on this.
Both FB and Telegram are way behind on WeChat in China.
But the Zuck is good at copying from the competition :)

I wouldn't place facebook near telegram.
Crypto is something about security and Telegram can provides this, while facebook is completely so far from there. Would you buy facebook crypto?

Why u called this a joke? The core idea is very useful, so it may work if someone develop it, ofc

Agree with ya. Facebook is pretty shitty in it's security aspects. Moreover, it's administration have leaked information several times already. I think that they need to take care about their private policy before crypto launch

I'm very sure FB can tackle the remittance problem due to its scale of users like no other company. Imagine Asians in West being able to transact( remit) to their home countries for fraction of cents. Currently some companies make billions in fees from trillions of dollar remitted every year for remittance

it may work in the case more and more people will be good experts in crypto as well as with social media.
