[Journey] Building a Niche Empire

Update

Long time without any update, I thought it was time to do one! As you maybe already know, I have been really busy with my main work plus my studies but I have found enough time to keep posting content and building some strong links. Right now no sales but that is not a problem since I made the site public just a few days ago (I was creating good content before making it public), just I hope to have at least one sale on this site in less than one month.

Anyway, I love optimizing sites so I have been working on my site, I have achieved a nice score and the best thing: I had that score having a fully functional WordPress affiliate site, without disabling important things or removing content (like some people do to achieve amazing scores). So, yeah, I feel really proud of myself. Maybe I will reach 100/100? I don't know, the little changes I should do to achieve it would need to disable some key features of the site so I don't think I will do it.

I am having a lot of problems staying focused on just one site since I have a lot of niches found, a lot of keywords ready (I love keyword research)... I am helping two friends to build their own niche sites and, wow, I can't wait to have enough content published on this site to start building the next one, I have already bought an amazing expired domain (49DA and high TF). I think that is what keeps me motivated these days, thinking about all these sites, thinking about researching.

Anyway, it is too late here and my update is starting to be more like a journal than a simple update post, I will try to give you amazing news in the next update!
Wow. Could you please write more detalied how you achieved such numbers?)

Update

I have several general articles already posted (not money articles) and a few money articles. All of them are targeting low volume keywords (10-150) and meanwhile the site is already indexed on Google (all the pages can be found on Google) the SERPS are dancing a lot. Yesterday, after publishing one post, it was in page 2, now some of them are out of the top 100... I hope it is because Google is ranking the site, the usual Serp dance.

I was not thinking about link building nor guest posting until my site had more content but yesterday I was just searching a little and my niche has very few sites where I could do guest posting or post a link, there are just a couple of forums and some affiliate sites, what do you recommend to do? Maybe do guest posting in a more general niche? Buying general backlinks from really high authority sites?

Hey mate, what's you're opinion on EMDs? do you think it's worth it to use an EMDs or is it better to go for an expired domain that has nothing to do with the niche

I think it depends on the niche and country you target. I usually prefer to don't use them since I am trying to build long-term sites, it means a label, a brand. Maybe now some of those sites are affiliate sites but... in the future, I could turn them on an FBA site or a private label store... So I prefer to create a brand name. Also, I think people are learning more and more about the Internet so now, when they see a site called, let's say, BestCheapRCCars, they know this site is going to try to sell them something so... they won't trust it. But if they see a good name like RCWorld, they will think: "Hey, this site is one that talks about everything related to what I am looking to buy, they will give me good recommendations for sure!"

Maybe in some niches and in some countries (where people is not really used to buy on the Internet), it can work but... if you can, try always to build a brand, an authority site.

Thanks for the reply, it makes sense. Tbh i'm not really thinking long term, i guess i'll have to try fresh vs aged on the same niche myself and see how it goes. good luck with your journey.. Following :)

Well, it's cool, man. But how are you going to control 200 websites? Or ever 20 sites? It may take more than 40hr/week to operate them.

It's all about automatization. Once I reach enough sites, content will be written by others, links created by my VA and some packages bought from here. Social networks and Web2.0s will be managed with IFFT. The only tasks I would have to do are creating and optimizing the sites. And finding niches. And I could "automatize" both tasks but... I love doing it so I prefer to do it by myself.

Update

Well, new small update now! I said my ranks where moving a lot and they were outranked (not in top 100). But as I was thinking it has been just temporal and right now I have around 75 keywords (most of them with buy intent) in page 2-3. I think there are 3 factors to reach page 1 soon:
  • Publish more content. I have been a little bit lazy and meanwhile I have several articles ready to publish, I had to format them, find pictures, find videos... So I just published 3 of them (yeah, it is a shame). But I was really focused in a bot I am building so, at least I used the time for something. And if I am starting to get rankings with just 3 articles... well, it is cool.
  • Time. Site is new, let's wait. SEO is slow, usually takes months. Just wait and keep working!
  • Links. Finally I got several good links from sites in my niche and meanwhile some are indexed, others are not. I am waiting and they should help me a lot to rank to page 1 (anyway I keep creating some links)
Anyway, I love writing (as a side note, in those days I have time to reoax I enjoy writing short stories just for fun) but... this niche is... well, not the most interesting thing to write about for me. But finally I have found a writer with enough quality, so I will be able to speed up the creation of niches since instead of writing a lot, I will be able to outsource it and just focus finding good keywords and ranking (anyway I will write on some sites since I love what I write there).

In another thread, few days ago, I was talking about I found another good domain but I was unsure due the Spam Score on Moz. I finally didn't bought it. You have reason, Spam Score is not very accurate. And DA and PA is easily modified. But it is not a problem, I already found another good domain, this time with less DA but a lot of TF and CF (metrics I trust more). Anyway I have bought the domain but I will not build until the end of this week the site.

But since maybe you are interested, this site (let's call it Site B, since Site A is the one of the original thread) will use AdSense plus affiliates (but this time not Amazon Affiliates, I want to try others). And... it will be multilingual! My first time doing an affiliate site multilingual so I am hyped, let's how it goes!

Hey mate, what bot are you working on?
Also, do you do outreach to get links?

Sorry for late reply, for some reason I didn't saw your notification. I am working on a bot to automatize all the work I usually have to do with my websites (social networks, web 2.0...). It is nothing new but it is made in a new way I feel more comfortable. Right now some parts of it are already working and it is doing well! About if I do outreach to get links, right now the answer is no. My niches are really targeted and I feel confident about ranking just with link building (creating links by myself) but maybe in the future in a few sites, I will have to do it.

Now, let's go with the update.

Update

As happened in my latest update, I have been without updating for a looong time. And again, as I said then, I have my main work and my studies so I was not able to focus 100% on this. Anyway, it doesn't mean I didn't work on this. Right now I have 8 sites, my target is to have 10 sites built after Chrismas.
I have been thinking about buying already made sites (without earnings) and grow them by myself but since I have a very specific way to build these sites and well, it is like a hobby right now, I prefer to build them by myself.
The same applies to the content. I love writing but creating all these content is really boring. And I am interested in those niches. But I write articles with around 1000-3000 words, I have to research a lot... Well, it is a lot of work but it is why we are here, aren't' we?

I will be fair and I will say that I have 6 of this 8 sites since the last week so it is not a lot of progress. I don't have now all the earning and spendings so I can't not give you exact data (in the next update I will) but let's try:
  • Site 1: Created on September. Monetization: Affiliate. Earnings: Not very much, it has just 5 articles (but really long). About $40 the last month, nothing previously. It was built in a moreless good expired domain. Expenses: Just the domain, $6.95
  • Site 2: Created on September by a friend, he has given up about IM (for now) so he gifted me his site and hosting. The domain is an expired domain a little bit bad so I am not really sure if this will work but I will try. He created 2 articles on September and stopped. Monetization: Affiliate, Ads. I am redesigning it and creating a lot of new content. Made $0. Expenses: Just the domain, $6.95
  • Site 3: Created last week. Monetization: Ads. It is a microniche. It has some competition in some big keywords (there are some keywords with 60K monthly search volume) but there are thousands of small keywords without competition and around 100-1000 of monthly search volume). It was built in a brand new domain (using one of the new gTLD), let's see how it goes and if it is affected by the infamous Google Sandbox. Made $0 (obviously). Expenses: $1.95 (just the domain).
  • Site 4: Created last month but not really worked on it until 2 weeks ago. Monetization: Affiliate, Ads. I started on this niche together with a friend, both building a site and I was teaching him. He is now working by himself so now I can focus on my site. I am not really sure if this is the best niche due to the high competition but I have a good expired domain, good content and well, at least in the top 10 there are some really weak competitors. Made $0. Expenses: $7.95 (just the domain).
  • Site 5: Bought the domain and built the site one month ago, I have just been creating content for this site but not published yet. Monetization: Affiliate, Ads. I have a lot of expectations for this site in the long term due to the huge amount of long-tail keywords for this niche with really low competition (and volume...). The bad news is I wanted to use a good expired domain but I was not able to find a good one, so I bought a brand new (with a new gTLD). Made $0. Expenses: $1.95 (just the domain).
  • Site 6: This site is another long-term project, its niche is competitive but I have a really good domain (well, compared with the competence: DA17, TF16, CF17 - as a side note, I don't trust anymore DA and PA so when looking for good domains I just try to get a good domain with more than X DA, but if I have two domains and one is better in DA by just a few points and the other one is better in TF/CF by just a few points, I take the one with better TF/CF). Monetization: Affiliate, Ads, Premium Membership. Made $0. Expenses: Just the domain: $7.95
  • Site 7: I was talking about this one yesterday in another thread, it was a warez site I wanted to build, just to try since I never did one. Finally, I won't build a warez site but something... similar. I got a really strong expired domain (again, strong compared to the competition: TF15, CF22, DA31). Monetization: Ads. Made: $0. Expenses: $6.95 (just the domain)
  • Site 8: My personal blog about IM, I use it to keep track of my projects and also to share tips and useful things. Right now I don't have a lot of visits but enough to make $20/month with ads (last month). I will keep building it, slowly, since it is something fun (for me)! Made: $20 Expenses: $6.95 (domain)
So, in total:
Made: $40+$20: $60
Expenses: $6.95+$6.95+$1.95+$7.95+$1.95+$7.95+$6.95+$6.95: $47.6
Profit: +$12.4
(Note: I don't include hosting due to I already have the hosting from other projects)

I have several more niches and domains ready to go and I have also content ready to be published on the current sites but I just don't want to add more workload until I have these sites going well.

Now, I have some free time so I will try to update daily? Tomorrow I think I will talk about the linkbuilding strategy I am using and also I will answer any question you have!

I love your journey, and I am curious about your market research method to find niches, as well as your promotion methods, are you just expecting to naturally rank because there is no competition?

Well, about my market research, I think I will do a guide if the journey is successful but the key I think is I am doing the niches in my native language (not english) so I have less competition. Well, I expect to naturally rank but I don't like to depend on others so once I have more content (I am thinking 20-40 articles per site) I will focus on link-building, outreach other sites to do guest posts (I think they will want since I can offer to publish a link to their site in my sites with high metrics) and meanwhile I am doing this, I made a custom bot to build some social network (for now just Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, and YouTube; I have too much work on it!) so in the future, I won't depend on just Google, but also in social traffic (in a really far away future). Anyway since it is mostly automated, I don't have to worry a lot, just wait.

I have done things in languages different than english but honestly? it is not worth it the EPC are way too low compared with even the smallest niche in english, think about it.
