Can i Change domain name for mailchimp list

Hi everybody,

As the title says, i have a mailchimp list containing a list of subscribers, i would like to know if i can change the domain name of the website connected to it and the email of the sender for the list, while keeping all the emails ?

For the info, even if the domain name changes it will be always pointing to the same website, it's just the domain name that changes !

You have to create a sub domain and point to an IP address. How many emails do you send a month ?

You have to create a sub domain and point to an IP address. How many emails do you send a month ?

Because you can't send all the emails with one IP? He's sending emails to the visitors on his website, I don't think they're too much...

Yes they do. You have to be very carreful since they increase your monthly bill automaticly when you increase your subscribers, so you might wanna keep an eye on your billing settings !

I have another website that aims for the same client types that i have in my first website, that's why i wanna move them and keep them in my new website. I don't wanna loose them !

Regarding the ip address, are you suggesting that i should change it and apply a new ip to my domain name ? Or is it possible to apply a certain dedicated ip for a specific subdomain and keep an old ip for the main domain name ?

From Address doesn't send the email, it is for the people who respond or for the bounceback collections on the SMTP level.

It is good idea to create sub domain ( email.BRANDNAME.COM) for brand recognition. But, usually small business do not create for those.

Almost all big ESP suggest to use sub domain. ESP like mailchimp, aweber etc. use their own domain to send the emails.

Rightway to do it is to use sub.domain1.com, normally your sending should effect the main domain, unless your list is really really bad. 99% of the ESP are checking sub domain and not main domain

Very intresting solution, so supposely i get like 60% bounce rate when sending with my subdomain, will that effect the emain domain name ?

Can this subdomain solution be used directly with an ESP like mailchimp ?

Yes I believe that will effect your main domain name.

Maybe i missed something here, if it's gonna effect the domain name then why would i need a subdomain for my emailing ? What advantage will i gain by sending my emails through the subdomain and point it to another ip address ?

You will be able to keep all the emails while changng your domain name. You can lower your bounce rate.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. You mean in Mailchimp for example if my sub1.domain.com gets blacklisted or greylisted i can change it with sub2.domain.com and keep my list of emails ?

Yes, the domain name also gets blacklisted. But as far as I know, you can keep all the emails but there must be a process to do it. Sorry if I am wrong.

I remember talking to Mailchimp support and they told me if i already have a list of emails that are connected to a certain domain name, if i want to change the domain name for that list, i have to resend the opt-in emails to all my email addresses to tell them to opt-in inside the new website (new domain name), so they can register again !

I'm not sure but i think that they keep a record of each email added through which website (domain name) has it been registred from, if you try to play with that domain name you might get flagged, but i'm not sure about this speculation !

As far as I knew, you can keep all the emails, but if the mailchimp support team are themselves saying this thing, then they must be right.
