Hey all, need to register a couple of .com domains. Which register is reliable and provides the cheapest rate?

I use Domcomp when looking for cheap domains to register. It's a domain price comparison site. However it doesn't feature every register out there.

but be careful of cheap ones for the first year, that will ramp up the fees later, godaddy is a name that comes to mind in this respect.

Yes, GoDaddy is around $2.18 for the first only if I register for 2 or more years.

Is there any register that offers cheap and lets checking out for 1 year only, other than upselling more years?

often this is when they do a time limited promo only; usually namesilo is one of the cheapest, you will not find below $7 or so (except special promo), as they have to make a living too.
