Hello William, this is maybe a great share, but personally, I'm very skeptical due to Tailwind app which you are using and have mentioned several times. I have looked in to Tailwind pricing page and was kinda shocked. $10/month per account and billed annually. Which means to run a single account there, you have to invest $120. You also said you are running a bunch of accounts, so basically, you are paying a ton of money for a damn pin scheduler. And that's what seems out of any logic for me here. I have checked your previous threads and seems like you are in a Pinterest game very long time and have a ton of experience, so why you simply don't use one of Pinterest bots? There are plenty of decent automation software which are WAY CHEAPER and have way more automation features. Sorry, but I think you posted all this just to promote highly overpriced Tailwind app, because you are an owner, or connected with it in some other way.
I apologize in advance if I'm mistaken. Just sharing my first impression. I might be wrong. Please care to explain why you use such overpriced pin scheduler instead of a decent, way cheaper automation software to run all this?
Also, I have no experience when it comes to Pinterest, but I do have a lot of experience when it comes to botting and posting in other social networks to drive traffic, and spamming exact same pins over and over without bans, sounds kinda unrealistic. Again, I might be wrong.
No need for an apology, its a very good and valid question and I hope I can sufficiently answer it for you. I have mentioned my dealings with Tailwind several times in the few threads I have started about Pinterest so for a little more background you can read what I have posted over the last few months about them. Yes Tailwind does cost $10 a month if you pay upfront but I think they do have a $15 month to month option. I did use to promote them around 6 months ago to my some of my Etsy FB groups and pages and it did OK but I found that it was too complex for the Etsy demo that I was promoting it to so I stopped promoting it 6 months or more ago. I was about to start back up when they moved it across to shareasale recently but I had other projects and never started due to the low commission they are paying on a high cost subscription like theirs. I was also making some nice money on crypto at the time so I could not be bothered with the few dollars they were offering. So as of right now I am not affiliated with them in any way and just use the tool. I will say this I have several accounts set up for free that they set up for me as I have mentioned before so I dont pay for half my accounts which is nice. I do pay for 8 accounts as of right now and that will increase no doubt but they pay for themselves.
I charge $500 for a 10k pin package and can do that with 4 accounts so that would cost $40 and I profit $460. The tailwind cost is the only cost pretty much. But I know a lot of my fellow marketers already use tailwind so this is particularly relevant to them. If someone does not want to pay for tailwind then that's fine I'm sure there are tons of other bots for less that do the same thing and I'm sure that there are people here that can make their own bots.
I will say this however. I have noticed that all these people using all these crazy bots that use proxies and have all these automated functions tend to burn out quick and I see people saying they got all their accounts banned. Tailwind is mainstream and not some bot knocked up in someones bedroom and they have money to have a team that liaises with Pinterest. (I assume) Its like politics, corporations, lobbyists. The ones with the money usually can break rules or have very lax ones. Pinterest probably take a different view to people using random bots to a big company like Tailwind and in reality the majority of people using it are probably legit business people or promoters so they probably dont have half as many problems with that sort of app/bot compared to some extreme bot that can take the piss and do a bunch of spamming using hundreds of account with proxies. Pinterest are more worried about those people that they are some bloggers and sellers on Ecomm sites using an app to promote their products. But that's just my opinion. I have no idea how these companies work but I suspect Tailwind is not monitored half as much as other bots and scripts and is regarded as a legit business as oposed to a $20 bot offered by a single person on a forum. You get what you pay for.
I'm 100% not trying to promote Tailwind though just to be clear on that. As far as I'm concerned they have a good tool that I can use effectively, that's not to say that any of these other bots and tools are no good. I'm sure there are plenty that are better and cheaper. I'm not tech savvy, Tailwind made it easy and like Coinbase is to crypto Tailwind is to pinterest bots in my opinion. Its the expensive easy to use mainstream version. If I didn't have a bunch of free accounts I would have probably looked for something else but because I was set up there and knew how to use it effectively I stuck with it. My accounts are paid for many many times over at this point and some so its not a huge issue to me but I can totally understand your point and can understand why you may have or still think that.
I really don't think you need to apologies and you are not mistaken about it being overpriced. If you have another option that you can share with everyone I welcome you to do it. I dont know why it's so hard to grasp that someone might pay for an app even if its overpriced in your opinion. By the way $10 a month is not a lot of money in my opinion but to some people its a weeks living expenses so I get your point. I'm personally not going to say crass things like I pay more for a cup of coffee but a lot of people do and I am very lucky to be able to afford it and live how I live. As I say I have documented many times how I use that app and you can read about it over the past few months if you want. If you want to think this is just a ploy to promote tailwind you can do that too. I'm not sure how that affects me as I dont see any aff links so how that would be tracked I have no idea.
No hard feelings though mate, its good to keep people accountable and I give you a big thumbs up for putting yourself out there and doing it. I use Tailwind because that's the method I have thought up. If I was using another bot and spoke of that I'm sure I would be accused of promoting that too. I really dont know what to say lol but no I dont own tailwind hahaha, do you think I would be here spending my time answering posts on one forum to try and get a few signups?
I'm not spamming the same link over and over, as I tried to explain that's why I have to have 20 - 30 pins per package so that they are different, tailwind randomizes/shuffles the queue so its rare that the same pin goes out to the same board and if it does its probably only once or twice over the course of tens of thousands of pins.
So in closing if I have not made it clear in my novel above. No I dont own tailwind. I'm not an affiliate of theirs (I was 6 months ago). I dont get paid by them in any way. I dont have any communication with anyone at their company anymore (did 6 months ago). I'm not going to let the fact that I earn nothing from mentioning them stop me from mentioning them, the whole method hinges around setting up pins to go out to group boards and this is personally the best I have found to do that the way I do it. Think what you will but it's all good I appreciate your opinion and input to the thread and like I say no hard feelings either way
Good share! Can confirm this is working, It's the same strategy I have been testing but with a custom bot. Some things of note are:
- Specific is better - Targeted Niches simply work better as with the right combination of good images, titles and keywords you can easily dominate a whole subsection of Pinterest and appear in all kinds of short & longtails related to the keyword in Pinterest search.
- Rich Pins - Ensuring Rich pins are displayed with the relevant meta such as product price go a long way to helping the rank of your Pins in search, also allow you to manipulate re-pins and change domain / link titles down the road if you are struggling to rank because of certain criteria required to appear at top.
- Initial Boost - Like
@William702 mentions group boards are playing a huge part in the growth and ranking, so your initial planning and execution of new pins is crucial to ensure you get the right traction in the beginning, also plan ahead and know when you need to give them additional re-pins and at what times by keeping an eye on your metrics, if its an clickable URL, check domain analytics and adjust pinning times to correlate with highest activity period in the day which will likely result in the most repins due to users being online and active.
This method could be highly dependant on how Pinterest go forward with there Ad platform, as if they suddenly see an influx of new shops, websites and services dominating search it will likely provoke a reaction that involves these users having to pay for the privilege by reducing reach/impressions/ranking and being more dependant on post engagement ad's just like the road Facebook has gone down.
Good share though man, glad to know i'm not alone haha!
Great contribution, thank you!
So you are pinning the same url (with/without ?modifier) to the same boards multiple times?
Do I understand that correctly?
Nope, I set up the pins using the app. I use the extension because I can then just go to a product and there is a little icon on the bottom of the image, you click that and it creates the pin which you need to edit and save. I add a description and save it for later. I do this to all the 20 - 30 products in the package and then go to the app and select the group of group boards that I want it to go out to. this part takes a few minutes and might crash the browser but I just click wait and it always works, it just takes a few minutes to catch up. so lets say you had 20 drafts, you set them up to go to 100 group boards thats 2000 pins. they are all in the queue and then I just press shuffle and walk away for a few weeks. when they have all been posted i get the templates if i want to promote the same stuff and set them up again and walk away for a few more weeks
its not like I am just sitting there pinning the same thing second after second to the same place. They are all randomized so I dont get any problems. I'm not saying that I wont get problems, especially now the cat is out of the bag but there will be some people that benefit from it in the meantime.
