Do I Have A Penalty?

Hey guys Merry Christmas to all! Anyhow I had a site that was on page 3-4 of G^^^ for the longest time, the site is in the adult niche . About 5 days ago it moved to page 1 for 2 days and I got a lot more traffic, after being at page 1 for 2 days it went back down to page 6-7. I went from 400 visits a days from the G down to 21 .. Anyhow what I was wanting to know is am I penalized or is this just a normal dance because I been building links to it? I don't really know what to do or do I just wait it out? Any help or information would be of great help. BTW I don't know if you guys noticed there is lot of strange things ranking in pron right now, like google books, I"ve saw Fox News and a lot of redirect sites..Thanks Again!

You might been affected with the last "Fred" update
Do you have multple landing pages with Keyword premutation?

Its not correct you can get partial penlization for certain pages and keywords not the whole domain
And dissapearing is a clear sign of penalty. But even losing 30/40 positions also mean you'v been penlized or there is a high competition going on on those keywords.
