Block copying content from the website

I saw few wordpress websites, they block right mouse click, F12 button and CTRL+F, they have pretty much good position on SERP. So the only way for someone to copy content from them is to paste "view-source:" before the domain name. Only a "few" people know for that, so I think they are protected.

My question: I'm thinking to add same on my website, is this good idea and what's the best wordpress plugin for this?

there are so much more ways to get your content. and people who scrape content would know them anyway.

just to give you a few examples that cancel out most of those solutions:
- deactivate js in the browser
- save the page
- select the webdeveloper with a mouse click not the F12 shortcut

Simply, most of the people don't even know what is Web Scraping, at least I will stop them, I want my unique content to stay on my website.

Anyone who is likely to steal your content is well aware of how to bypass your "protections". I agree that it just kills user experience and screams of the 90s to early 2000s.

I saw many websites that used this method. I really don't know what's the best approach. From one point of view users won't be able to copy some useful info and share it with someone but still it will block other websites to copy content from my website. Is there some research paper which show how this approach affects user experience?

There are many websites which doing copy control. You can use one of them.

but what does it help? if they want to copy, they will copy anyway unless you encrypt source and console but for no nerdy guy thats impossible.

all websites with rightmouse or copying blocked are terrible in usage. sometimes i want to quote good sentence or copy image link and thats it and boom i cant.



plus there are websites that scan other websites (not for viruses, just for some stats) then they make an indexable page with link to yours and some statistics.


they wouldnt crawl it if u had copying blocked. keyword density tool from serpbook didnt work neither when I had such blocking mechanism

What are you talking about, you can't encrypt html content!

Can't say I have some research I can cite. I just know I leave a site pretty quickly when the webmaster decided they would do something like disable my right click. I know several people personally who get annoyed by that as well. Sure, it's all based on assumptions from a very limited number of people I know, but that's all I've got. I've also been doing website design since the days when animated gif backgrounds were widely accepted. Beyond those days, disabling right clicks, etc. just become a generally frowned upon practice (as far I I knew).

I still don't understand why you insist on disabling right click so much. Are you perhaps mistaken and assume "not allowing people to copy you" will help with rankings? Or that it's somehow beneficial? I would assume the increased bounce rate from poor user experience would be more likely to do harm than good?

I have been using the plugin I mentioned earlier and everything is fine, my visitors are not leaving because of it

You can use the plugin for it according to the CMS which you are using. There are plugins for it which will block such access. It will not affect the ranking of your website or block the traffic. You can use it without any issue. I do have enabled such feature.

I recently saw someone stealing full articles I post up on my website and ranking just under me for article title search using my content.
I worked hard writing it and he stole the entire article and pasted it on his website and has a hire ranking than I do, he just scrapes content from other news sites

im smaller site so this hurts me more

should I use the disable right click plug in? problem is a lot of these plug ins can also interfere with other plug ins

The problem is this makes for a really bad user experience in my opinion.

I’ve seen other plugins that will
Attach a source and link when text is copied from a site - I think that’s better in my opinion -

It’s less intrusive for visitors and you might get a small percentage of links when people copy and paste your content.

Also, let’s face it, if someone wants to copy your content they’ll find a way around those other plugins.
