Just wondering if starting an Amazon affiliate site in another language works.
For example, let's say I start a site dedicated to mouses but instead of English I use Swedish would there be any difference in SEO?

You would have a lot less competition than the English market,

@hekke has some Swedish sites, maybe he can offer some advice?

Sure thing!

What is the question? Do you want to start a Swedish site promoting mice (computer mice, that is?) on Amazon? Or do you mean the language on your CMS (so that it is Swedish in the admin-section)? If it was the former, don't push people to Amazon - rather push them to Webhallen or some other related site - they all have affiliate programs!

If it is the latter, I actually changed that previously so that Swedish sites had Swedish CMS and vice versa - apparently, the language of the site is changed when you have a Swedish CMS - I doubt it have resulted in a massive gain but apparently it showed up in the code. It helps Google to let them know that it isn't just gibberish English, it's actually Swedish.

you can have multilingual website and send english guys to amazon while swedish to something else

Ohh didn't know webhallen had an affiliate program. Does elgiganten, mediamarkt and the likes of them have an affiliate program as well?

And I used compute mice as an example. It could be anything just as long as I can use some sort affiliate network.

Would you say there is potential in the Swedish market - or is it much harder?

My experience is very small, and from diifferent niches. But my experience is that its easier to rank in Swedeb, but people are less likely to buy comparred to .com

Its all relative of course.

What do you think?

This for sure. Also, I've heard from others that Google's algorithms are less sophisticated on the non .com versions of Google. Remember that you have a smaller number of prospective leads, as well. Easier to rank but less potential profit. With that in mind, you might consider picking a product that is a little more competitive than what you'd go for in US markets.
