Ask Me Anything About Pinterest (Pinterest AMA)

How would you use a bot to promote an ecommerce product?

Is there any possible way to get high pr back-links from the pinterest?

Can you be more specific, what bot are you referring to and are you referring to promoting on Pinterest? I would set it up to pin my products to relevant group boards.
Sorry about that! Let's say I am using a bot like Mass Planner that can auto-pin and follow, 20 to 50 private proxies, and a mix or new and old accounts. I have a shopify store with products as well. Goal is to drive people to the website to sell, retarget, etc.

So if you have a bit of a budget, what would you do to get traffic.

I have not used anything like that yet as I have not done any following or unfollowing with my accounts but i do plan on using pinbot soon to try it out. Also I dont use proxies and only have a handful of accounts that I primarily use so have never needed it.

To the people that are using follow/unfollow bots like FollowLiker. What are you followback percentages? Mine are quite low at 3-5%. This gets 30-50 new followers per day when following 1000 people per day...

Also. I read on another thread that if you ONLY repin then your account could be banned. But it seems like you advocate for repinning the top ranked images in your niche.

Thanks for the advice btw. Very nice thread.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom on this.
I have a site that gets 90% of its traffic from Pinterest so I am always looking for ways to improve my strategy. What are your thoughts on:
1. Percentage of others content (repins) to my content. I am currently doing 80:20. Does it matter?
2. How many pins per day is a good number? Should this be spread over all boards or just focus on a couple?
3. Despite the fact that my follower number is increasing by about 1k each month my traffic from Pinterest is declining over time. Any thoughts on why that might be or how to increase it again?

Sorry for my bad english. yes, this method worked and works now. I previously used 3000 bots, but now I need at least 10,000 bots

No problem, when you say 3000 and 10,000 bots what do you mean? do you mean accounts?

Thank you. That figure sounds about right. Follow back rates on Pinterest are very low. I'm surprised you are getting that much to be honest. Its so low I never bother doing it. I use the accounts normally so i have never had an issue. I do repin and pin new things myself. i also use pin buttons on websites to pin so it varies the activities on the account.

My pleasure.

1) I use a similar percentage however sometimes I even go 50/50. The more viral content that you share from others the more activity your account will have thus the more traffic you will have for the few pieces of content of yours that you add in here and there.
2) I try and stick to a maximum of 90 pins a day. I dont know why I have stuck with this figure but it works for me. I set my accounts up on tailwind so with one account it does roughly 2700 pins a month. If its several products that I am promoting then i will set them up on tailwind to go out to 100+ group boards. so with setting up just 27 pins and setting them up to go out to all the group boards I have 2700 pins and it randomizes them all so one of the 27 pins will go out to one of the 100 boards every 5 - 10 minutes. Takes me all of ten minutes to set up lol.
3) I would not know without seeing it but it sounds like your account is doing well if its gaining 1k new followers each month. Have you changed the content or how you pin it or where you pin it from? have you stopped or started using paid ads? How old are the pins and do you pin EVERY day? The only way to increase it is to increase the volume of activity and pins you are posting.

Wow. 90 pins a day is huge. That may be where I need to improve. Do you have any detailed info on how you set this up in Tailwind in ten minutes?

1) If you have the capacity and means to do it then yeah give it a try.
2) Yeah that's what repining is essentially. So yeah search for viral pins and repin/use those
3) I'm not going to speculate on that as I don't know enough about it.

Does piins help in ranking a site? like lets say i have page about longboards and there are some pics on itf and i pon those images on my longboard board. does it add value? maybe increase my page ranking even just a little bit? thank u

I'm seeing a decline in traffic as well. Perhaps the new format is affecting our CTRs. My viral pins are still tops in keyword ranks, yet, they're pulling less traffic.

By not having pin counts, users won't know the popularity of pins in their feed. I'm not sure how pin numbers influence CTR, but because of Smart Feed, Pinterest has been criticized for the rich getting richer, so to speak.

In other words, it could be that Pinterest doesn't believe that viral pins are in their best interest. But at the same time, they're sticking with Smart Feed, an algo that rewards pin engagement. Maybe it's for monetization - a promoted pin displayed next to a pin showing 890K saves. Which one gets clicked more?

Maybe they're using this new format to lessen the effects of viral pins. Now, there's much more "fairness" when competing for user attention. Smart Feed still controls what shows up, but users are not swayed by popularity. They'll click on pins depending only on how they feel about the image not how others feel about that image.

Maybe their data shows that promoted pins perform better now when shown among viral pins.

And this new format could also be good for newer pins. A pin with 890 saves only needs to evoke the right emotion when displayed next to a pin of similar topic with 890k saves.

Of course, everything I said above is just my theory. I've not seen any official statement on the changes. But we're still left having to deal with this new format.

So what we need to do going forward is focus on our niche by learning to evoke the right feels using images. Use overlay text, if necessary.

Images with overlay text is now much more powerful because of the other thing we lost in this new format -- description. We didn't lose it per se, but it's not displayed in the user feeds. So action commands like CLICK HERE, READ MORE, etc. will not be seen until users click on images for close ups.

i try to run pinterest ads. But my cc got denied everytime and i have issues with billing to be more specific. Any advice?

I honestly don't know for sure but I don't think that a bunch of pins that do rank high will do anything bad that's for sure. Paid ads on Pinterest seem to rank better from what I have been reading. It certainly cant hurt so having a good board for your customers to browse would be a good thing either way.

btw, you can now search for tribes inside tailwind

Thank you. I just got the email today but have not read it yet.

First off thanks for the detailed theory. I think you hit the nail on the head with your analysis of why traffic is decreasing. I agree that content is king and those that spend some time to share the right images will reap the rewards later. The fact that the text is no longer displayed in that way will probably be affecting the click rates as well.

yes i mean accounts, this is the answer to this message

What do you need 10,000 Pinterest accounts for, that's overkill don't you think? How many accounts do you have right now?

i try to run pinterest ads. But my cc got denied everytime and i have issues with billing to be more specific. Any advice?

What is the issue, is the card yours? Is it a prepaid card? What country are you from? have you had any issues in the past with Pinterest?

I have found that brand new websites don't get the same reach as established sites on Pinterest. My new blog's pins are only getting anywhere between 50 - 100 people reached every time... compare that to 1000 - 4000 people reached when I pin from my established site. These are my results when pinning to one of my larger group boards so nothing else has changed. My theory is that Pinterest assigns a quality score for each site which ultimately affects your reach. What are your thoughts?

I was active their back in 2014-2015
I have a question - Do group boards still have huge traffic?
I was making 1500-1800 Euros monthly from PInterest Group Boards + Adsense. I was pinning everyday, literally everyday and was dominating Fitness niche in like 10-12 group boards (each one had 10K followers). So it was great back in days, but after 20 months of working Adsense blocked my account without any reasons and somehow I gave up.
I still want to get back but saw that on my account (which I have since 2014) that only 4 group boards in fitness niche have been left, maybe other boards have been deleted), so do you think that it's good to buy group boards somewhere? do you know someone who sells invitations in big group boards for a not a huge price?
