Blogging is still good and viable as long as you own the niche/space. Once you become an authority figure in your space, it eclipses anything Instagram has to offer. Some of the top bloggers in a niche I am in have only 800-2,000 followers but they have more conversions than any instagram accounts with 100K followers. Other bloggers follow bloggers. Brands and their executives follow bloggers. Brands often like to get featured in article that has more "sticky-ness" in terms of "evergreen" SEO. A good blog article can live on forever (especially if it is indexed in wikipedia). An instagram post has a useful life of 3 days.
But it takes a lot of work. I mean lots of work. That is why I rather contribute to a large blog. This is fastest way to build your personal brand - writing for large blogs or high DA sites like Forbes, Huffington Post. Once you start writing for large sites, you will get a lot of monetization possibilities.

Blogging is always a great idea~
You just have to make sure to properly use keywords and have it set to 1-2 post a month for a moderate speed and 2+ post for a more aggressive speed.
Blog pages add new and relevant content for search engines while also adding to your total content pages to your site.
If you have trouble getting items out in time you can always pre-write a bulk and post over time or hire a content writer to provide articles on relevant subjects for your site(s)~

Blogging is always a good idea to earn online.
If your blog is an informational blog then you need organic traffic to make it a success.
Spending money every day on a site or blog does not result in success. You should spend it on right place.
I am adding these points, as you have said your blog is 2 months old. It means your blog is not matured yet (for Google).
Few things you should consider:-
1- Blogging takes time
If you are starting a new site, then it will take at least 4-6 months to start showing some hope of success.
Why?
Because Google doesn't trust new sites, and no matter how good quality your content and links are, you will be halted on the 2nd/3rd page for your keyword.
It is something called "Sandbox" - "waiting time" - "probation period". Generally, the time is 6 months, till your site get full phase attention from Google.
Most New bloggers do this mistake:-
99% of aspirant bloggers do the same mistake. They are in hurry to make money online. They buy a domain, design a blog on WordPress within 3-4 days. Buy some cheap content (no research, no value) for $2-$3. Fill the blog with 20-30 contents for the low Competetive keywords.And then JUMP into buying link packages. And ruin their blog before it gets matured.
Please note "A single blog can bring 5 figure income every month, it's an investment, can be an empire. So don't make it a child play thing" Focus on every point.
You have to go slow, but be consistent.
2- If your blog is new or you are on start point - (Focus on content developing and keyword research)
If you are starting a new blog and you have a limited budget, then first make a plan before you proceed. A plan for at least first 3 months.
Your first 3 months should be reserved for keyword research and content development. In this time you will find traffic pulling keywords, money making keywords. And then develop well researched, helpful, better than everyone contents for your upcoming visitors. It's like preparing a cake for guests. Make it better and awesome. You want to serve a tasty and awesome cake to the guests, You understand!!! Prepare Good content.
3- After 3rd month - Focus on some links and more on Social media presence
The 3rd and 4th month of the blog should be spent on Social media marketing.
What can you Do?
Just open social pages for your blog on fb, google+, twitter, Pinterest, tumblr
Start sharing your contents, design small infographics related to your industry and share them on your pages.
Post 5 content, images or infographics a day. This way you will gain some social signals to your blog. And if your infographics are good, host them on your site and you will get credit links via google image search and Pinterest. This is a free way to get links.
In the mean time build some links to some of your page/posts. As your site is 3 months old, you have to get some links now and its the time to build some authority for your pages. Don't buy big packages.
Just go for 30-40 quality, multi tier links. (I will discuss: why multi tier link building gets better results)
4- After 6 months, your site is matured now
After 6 months your site will be matured. You have done a very good job!!! I appreciate your patience !!!!
Now just go to SEMrush tool and check your blog ranking. You have ranked more 1000+ keywords on Google for all the pages of your blog. Without doing much on link building, you can see your main keywords are ranking on Google.
They may be now on 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th pages.
And also, one more thing, if you have done everything right, you would be getting 20-30 clicks from Google every day (that's 600-1000 free visitors per month).
Now what?
Now do some serious link building. Focus on few quality links than big link packages.
Target already ranked keywords to push them to top 5 spot on Google.
It may take another 3 months. But after 9 months of starting, you have a baby (haaaahahah) , You have a blog, which has traffic and you can monetize it now with affiliate links or Adsense.
There are many things to be done with content developing, keyword research, Social media reach, SEO link building. But. I will cover each of them later on this forum.

I have a blog that covers quite a broad range of topics, I update the blog post and then post them in some Facebook groups promoting them with click-bait title lol. The traffic is good for me so far

There will always be space for contextual backlinks, brand mentions and social awareness for a site. The miss information comes from Google getting smarter at examining that information and people having knee jerk reactions when their short cuts do not work anymore. I have seen blogs at 20DA with 2k in backlinks stuck there because they spammed there way up then crashed. You have to build slowly and you have to add value if you want a true tool in the blogging world you can earn revenue from. An emerging topic or product is important as well. If you are going to do a blog now adays and you do not have a ton of money to throw at it (which is a poor return most of the time) you need to look at it like entertainment for you instead of watching TV you work on your blog. We have not added a backlink to our site in the last 90 days and we have gone from 7.5mil to 7mil on Ahref.
