Boosting post counts

Don't know if this is possible. An introductory post doesn't usually need to be revisited after more than a few days.

Would it not be possible to auto close all posts in the introduction section after say, 1 month?

It shouldn't need to be bumped after that amount of time anyway but if a member has a genuine reason to post in the thread they would only need to pm a mod.

I had this spammed PM from a person yesterday who had reached the magical 15 post count mark. No idea how many others received this.

I feel so unwanted, I didn't get that message!:(

I very often try to catch the spammers who are obviously trying to reach the magical "15" but we can never stop it altogether. Except maybe increase the 15 to 50, wouldn't be popular with noobs but hey, life is tough.

To be frank, the noobs who are interested in buying can ask on a sales thread for samples or seller to contact them, would be my thinking.

There's no way I'm going to buy from a spammer such as this, however there will be some foolish people who will be tempted and some may even buy.

Another who joined just this evening and upto 26 posts already...

The moron got to 46 at the last count. Was bumping sales threads with comments like " nice service"...

I know this is an old thread but this problem seems to be getting worse. Some members are deliberately targeting the introduction section to boost their post count, some are not far off being able to apply for JVip with just welcome replies. Members could still welcome others ( if they are genuinely welcoming them to the forum ) but not get a post count. The argument was that newbies need their first post count, fair enough, but some have realized it's a quick way to boost their post count, not good for the forum as a whole

The other mods and I are already discussing this problem.

For now, just report those users when you see them. Anyone I catch spamming the intro section gets their post count nuked back to zero.

I commented on a couple of threads yesterday, advising the blatantly obvious spammers boosting post counts, that Mods will just zero the figures.
Hopefully it'll dissuade them from carrying on.

I did report one, however nothing was done. He has over half of his post count just blatantly copying and pasting the same welcome.

There's also a new tactic on boosting post counts. Just tell newbies the whole day that they cant do this and cant do that, this is not allowed, that is not allowed etc etc. Every day there will be newbies who dont follow the rules, so endless boost of post counts.

2 benefits

- It looks like you're very dedicated to the forum
- Endless post counts.

Did you receive a resolution alert?

If not, PM me the name of the member and I'll take care of it.

The only problem I see arising from removing post counting from the introduction section will be the amount of new threads that will be started saying:

"Why is my post count not increasing???"

From one problem to another, although it will be easier to deal with this one!
I still think the introduction threads should be locked after a certain amount of time. What is the point posting to welcome somebody who has been here for months?

Why do posts in the Introduction section even count toward overall post count?
