[SUGGESTION] Require Sales Thread Titles to Be Relevant!

One of the recurring things I've been seeing is click bait BST threads...

I think it would be a great idea to require sales threads to have relevant titles instead of titles that sound like method names...

When I post, I almost always have something prepended to the title [SUGGESTION], [GIVEAWAY], [METHOD], etc...

My suggestion is to have something like [BST] prepended to each BST title to alleviate the confusion and annoyance for everyday readers.

To some this probably isn't a big deal, but to me this trend lowers the value of the homepage and BHW as a whole.

Any thoughts?

Totally agree. Clicking one of those "Earn money with Amazon" threads nearly everyday just to see that it's an affiliate website bst. Gets annoying if you can't differentiate Guides, Questions and BST on the homepage.

Good idea, I agree with it,... I see many BST with -GET- or -MAKE MONEY- ...
so, I think adding this, in the beginning, will help to organize the threads more

I completely agree with you.

In my opinion, thread titles shouldn't be over-hyped with misleading sales pitches. Titles such as "Google Approved Links" or "Ranking Increase Guaranteed" shouldn't be allowed only because it can be misleading to a novice.

What happens when a member purchases a "Ranking Increase Guaranteed" service for their client and promises the client a ranking increase and it doesn't happen?

I know the MODs do a good job moderating not only the forum but the services as well and it'd probably be a near-impossible task to go back and require all service providers (the ones with misleading titles) to change their sales thread titles.

More important than the titles of sales threads though is the ability for the seller(s) to fulfill orders. I'd say 95% of buyers read service descriptions in its entirety and know what to expect from the service they're purchasing.

So long as they get what they purchased and they receive what was promised, this is much more important than what the seller chooses to name their service.

Yea guaranteeing earnings isn't allowed anymore if I'm not mistaken.

It would be a big task to take all of that out of existing threads or requiring the OP to change it, that's why I decided upon the suggestion of just prepending [BST].

Mods do a really good job of monitoring things around the forum. They do a lot more than people see or expect too I'm sure.

However, I think this would be an excellent opportunity to use the prefix feature. Right now, I'm the only one with a thread with a prefix on Black Hat World, but this is what it looks like:

Wouldn't it be possible to change the title but not the URL? Or at least require new BST's to have this. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe an admin could do it, but whenever I change a thread's title, it automatically changes the URL. There's no option to disable it for me.

Clickbaity BST titles never really bothered me to be honest. I guess I got used to clickbaits haha

But I would love prefixes like Zwielicht posted them, those would definitely improve the clarity and comprehensibility of BHW.

This relates to this, so I'll just mention it here. Actually, I would love to see what threads are from what category of the forum I must say. For example, on the front page, I would love to see from what sub-forum thread is instead of going over a thread that has stupid misleading title and I find out it's about Instagram that I could not care less about

I like the proposed prefix idea a lot. It looks better asthetically, won't break the URLs, and overall just makes the most sense.

Doesn't seem like it has received much backing (as far as member replies), but I still think it would be a helpful addition.

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would bring clarity to the forum.

Actually, the prefix thing should be on some other sections alongside with marketplace as the title sometimes misleads.

Not necessarily, logic can be applied to the code to handle the tag without having to rewrite or affect the URL. How-ever, this added complexity doesn't seem to be worth it for said benefits, because it would be hard to maintain for the developer and would most likely introduce bugs in the future.

The tag you propose is ideal as it seems to be integrated out of the box. I also like the idea of having each thread title tagged with their subforum's name, let's just hope it works in the mobile website because some features don't work, like forum signatures.

Forum signatures do work on the mobile website, but they're only displayed in landscape mode.

The prefix feature works on the mobile website as well. I've attached a screenshot below, but you can view my prefix thread from 2016 here if you want to see for yourself.
