So I saw a video today: http://youtu.be/FszYwQhESF0

At the end there is an annotation with a link to the company's website. I have a partnered account and I definitely have never seen this option before to link to external websites right from within the video.

Anyone got any thoughts on how this is done?

That is a very good question.... so I googled it, first thing I came upon was a google thread.

Says something about you need a "brand" channel, so brands pay lot's of money and they get to link to their sites apparently..

Brand channel was my first thought too, but this particular channel doesn't have any of the other brand channel features you would typically see. Nor does it look like they are spending 200k in advertising costs that it normally takes to get a brand channel anyways.

I'm really confused and incredibly curious as to what's happening here...

Nice find, a money link like that in the video would be a mad earner.

I want to find out how to do that. It can end up making you huge amounts of money. Loads of people tend to avoid looking at the description.

that is pretty interesting haven't seen anything like it..i'm curious as well

maybe this helps

it's not for us regular mortals

here is the method.

there is a program on youtube adwords where you can do this. it called

PROMOTED VODEOS.

One of the primary perks of running Promoted Videos is the ability to include an overlay ad, clickable text that appears at the bottom of your video while it plays. The overlay allows you to add a link from your YouTube video to an external site, and is thus an invaluable technique to drive viewers to your site.

You are way off. That's completely different.

I think the promoted videos is accurate... you can overlay your vids with an external link if you're part of the program.

I know you can have overlay ads on promoted videos but they are using annotations to link out

I saw freddiew do the same thing. I'm sure if you're channels big enough, you could contact the staff at Google/YT and request to have it put in.

this account is all but big - 500+ subscribers and 175k video views and that particular one (of 9 videos on accounts) has 130k+

hm, it must be some paid promotional stuff, no other explanation ...

100% sure it's paid. I've captured the headers and it goes to that site through these urls:
hxxp://www.googleadservices.com
hxxp://googleads.g.doubleclick.net
But the question is how did they do that???
It maybe even worth paying in some cases.

When I clicked the link, it didn't go through the ad urls. It just basically went straight to the page via the annotation.

how do you guys capture that type of info

I am getting the impression that it is some sort of very special paid feature available by special circumstance, would be an incredibly useful trick to have though.

I saw another example of outside the box thinking recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khCokQt--l4

notice the overlay ads pointing to her own facebook page. (might have to watch it directly on YT)

Isn't what your talking about just the 'Call-to-Action' Overlay?
i cant post urls so if you google call to action overlays its the second link down.

Having a promoted videos account isn't hard (It's free) Just set up an Adwords account and promote one of your videos, you could even cancel the promotion before you get any clicks and have to pay anything.

I still have the option to add overlays to my old promoted videos from months ago that im not paying for.
[im not allowed to post images so you'll have to do this one manually, sorry]
