As a man was passing by a cafe he noticed a dog tied up outside the patio. He suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that the dog was being being held by only a small rope tied to a cheap water bottle. It was obvious that the dog could, at anytime, break away from its bonds but for some reason, it did not.

The dogs owner, located on the cafe patio nearby, called out to the man and asked if there was a problem with his dog. The man replied that he looked fine, but asked why the dog stays there while anchored only to a small water bottle...

‘Well,’ the owner said, ‘when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them to posts and at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.’

The man was amazed. This dog could, at any time, break free from his bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

TL;DR Dog is tied up to a water bottle, but thinks he is tied up for real so that he can't move. This can be applied to everything in life.

Don't be a dog. Don't be tied up. Be human, be free, be flamboyant with feathers and all.

You mean by the people around us?

I meant for the dog, he believes he can't break free and doesn't even try. Would this experiment work with a human? Probably not, the dog itself is in a situation where he/she does not know what to do and probs gets frustrated to say in one place for a longer period of time. Either way, I don't kind of believe this that the dog doesn't even move? My dog moves a lot and doesn't stay in one place tbh

congrats your dog is an action taker but sadly that is not the case with everyone :(

Mind posting your dogs pic here?

A very interesting life lesson here! It can also be explained with the reverse situation of the butterfly,
“If you examine a butterfly according to the laws of aerodynamics, it shouldn't be able to fly. But the butterfly doesn't know that, so it flies”

The dog's kind of cute though!

Will this work with a human? Of course it will!

If you are being told your whole life, from when you were a kid, that you won't succeed in life by everyone around you & that you are a total loser. You will eventually believe them.

"Those who think they can & those who think they can't, are both usually right." - Confucious.
