Hey guys, I've been using a certain theme ever since I built my Wordpress website, which has gotten decent rankings for keywords. But I realised that I'd probably benefit more if I changed to a WP theme that shows a lot of text/post excerpts on the homepage. If I change my theme to a new one, will it affect my SEO? Negative or positive?

Most of the WP themes designed nowadays are SEO friendly I dont think it will effect the ranking still do check analyse properly before changing

Thanks for the reply man! Also, is it true that Google loves a homepage with more text on it? Rather than just a few images and titles?

Research is showing the top 10 results have an average of 2000+ words, so yes longer content on the homepage seems to be better.

Yes, wp theme can affect you rankings. If you will install properly coded, faster loading theme, your rankings probably will go up. Use something like https://mythemeshop.com/themes/schema/ as google gives priority to fast loading sites. Also your excerpts should be unique, otherwise they cause duplicate content.

Hi Savo,
It does affect. There is different code in each so it effect what content shows, how it shows and speed of the site. If you are already getting good traffic than there are high chances you will see atleast 30-40% drop in traffic once the theme is changed.
But if your existing theme is not updated from few years than you may consider changing the theme. It will help you.

Well as much i know google loves any page with more text basically quality readable content ...But do see how much your competitors are doing and just do better then them ;)

Adding on to this thread: different templates/themes will utilize h1/h2/h3 and other tags differently, which could have adverse effects on your SEO.

Hey, I think this link will be helpful:

According to Rajesh Namase (a professional blogger and founder of TechLila blog),
the safest course is not to make any changes that affect your entire blog. If you must change your theme, select one that is a close variant of your existing theme. An example would be another of the WordPress themes, or a theme designed by the same company as your original.

If this is not possible, make as few other changes as you can – at least for a while. Once you are sure the theme has not changed you ranking, you can then begin making other changes one at a time, so you can identify the cause of any ranking loss.

So, does changing the WordPress theme affect search engine rankings? Yes, it can, but not always. If it does, look for an inherent change in your source code an in the way your post or page content is presented in the HTML.
