Would you sell PIRATE dvds???

I wouldn't. If you're in a Western country, you gonna get hassled by cops. If you're in an Eastern country, you gonna get hassled by organized crime. The big boys in the industry have serious protection and connections. They've all been doing it since the cassette tape days, it's not an industry you can just walk into. Trust me, I live in the heartland of piracy.

Pirating in itself won't get your screwed much, but pirating for profit will. Although what I think a better business model would be selling it to your close friends if you are really set on doing it.

If you are UK based the safest place to start selling (apart from on the street) would be cqout (dot) com. I have a mate who has been selling pirate adult dvds on this site for a few years, makes a really good income and has never had any problems. He told me that the site has been reported to the police in the past and they have just turned a blind eye to it. Good luck

the cops just busted a couple of people in a town next to mine for selling counterfet dvds, cds, and some other stuff.

cops said they had a couple of million in merchandise. haven't heard about the trial yet but i wouldn't sell them. pick something that isn't so dangerous. you can't help your family if your stuck in jail can you? good luck.

i'm in a situation also but i'm trying other things that are legal. at least i hope they are.

In brazil, for u take jail for selling pirate dvds, you need sell A LOT OF PIRATE DVDs (and when I say "A LOT" it's 91203812093812079 million copies or more)

If you're really desperate for money put on some of your fathers old clothes and clean windshields on a corner. I had a friend that made about $200/day doing this.

Don't do it. Like others have said, big jail time. There are alternatives to making money. If you can't get any internet shit going, go get a part time job at retail or fast food before you try to sell pirated shit. You don't want to go to jail and not be able to raise your kids.

You could always put up a little personal blog and beg for donations. Sell your sad story and make some YT vids. I know it sounds crazy, but there have been people who have gotten out of debt this way. I've always wanted to try it, but you have to be careful that you're not committing some type of fraud too. Don't lie about your situation, just be honest. Of course, in this economy you might not find too many sympathisers.

did this when those dvd burners came out some years back.

sold about 150 dvd`s a week at a 5euro profit a piece. everybody wanted the newest movies for the price of a rental.

and in europe movies come out a few months after the us.
so i always had the us retail downloads available in top notch quality on dvd when movies where playing here in the theaters.
so people had to go to the theater or had to wait 6 months to buy or rent the official dvd.

people where eating them up like mars bar haha.
but more and more people started doing it and it was just a lot of hassle to download, burn and keep up with the new ones all the time.

so i switched to other things that made more money with less hassle
but made a bundle while it lasted.

also never heard about anybody going to jail for doing this here in europe, yeah its illigal, but its not like robing banks or something.
double parking your car is also ilegal, yet still everyone does it every once in a while.
i don`t know where you are from, so can`t say how hard the cops will come down on you in your country. better do your research.

Am I missing something here ? Are you selling the DVD's online ? If so then you may have a problem. But if not then I dont see one.

Maybe things are different in different places. Where I am from the police can care less about people selling "bootleg" DVD's The people on the train got them. The corner store got them. The barbershop got them. Even my grandma got DVS's for sell.

So I dont see the problem. Sell them $5 a piece and three for $10

If you sell a small quantiy, you will not make much money. If you sell a lot, police will knock at your door. Better do BH stuff.

I did this in high school to all the kids who didn't have computers to burn their own music cd's... This was back in the day too. Made nice lunch money

This makes me think of a friend of mine a few years back... He is a homeowner and the place was falling apart, needed many things then the water heater blew. He made ends meet by selling the new Star Wars movie on the A train in NYC (Not sure if anyone remembers, but there was a major leak from lucasfilms and a hi-quality workprint was on the scene like 2 weeks before the release)

He ultimately made $2,000 doing this. But I think directly because of that leak the industry has gone Gestapo on any and all bootleggers for profit, even on the street level. I have personally seen arrests at gas stations, laundromats, and bus stops where people where hustling music and movies. To do this online is absolute suicide

My suggestion: If you are scraping the bottom of the barrel, sell to your friends, coworkers, and family. Or at least tell them about it. You dont have to tell them you are selling them, only that you know a 'guy' who has excellent quality movies. You will be surprised how many law abiding citizens will get that $5 bootleg if it looks good. Another suggestion: HAVE VARIETY not just the latest action blockbuster. Children's movies sell like hotcakes. Quality is the key, once you get them with a screener or workprint, they will ask you about movies for the next 6 months, "HEY can you get a copy of so-and-so"

No table stands, no public selling (on street, public transportation) and NO INTERNET!

Nope, not me. I'm all for bending some rules and avoiding others but this borders too close to illegal for my taste. Try one of the many MANY awesome ideas on here, you'll make more than you would with dvd's and besides, those who are in the frame of mind to buy the pirated copies instead of a "real" one, are also smart/savvy enough to rent the damn things from a redbox for a buck and burn their own copy for free.. and probably do.. so...

Think hard.

in south america, eastern europa and asia, probably ok if you don't do big mistakes =P

You have to be careful doing that. Outright piracy advertising will get you some calls from some legal offices. Large scale operations will eventually attract too much notice. However, there might be a way around it in the advertising...

Years ago, back when using older NDS cards to pirate DirecTV was all the rage (before you had to use a PC hooked to the tv), ebay clamped down on auctions selling them. One way sellers got around it was to advertise something else and throw in the card as an extra. They'd usually say something like "broken, nonworking DirecTV box for sale, card as a bonus" or something like that and stress that the box was useless, etc. After the auction was over, they'd ask if the buyer really wanted the settop and usually, they'd say no.

Just a thought. No endorsing this though. Selling to people you know would be safer if you have to.
