Countries with the Highest Obesity Rates​

According to collected data, the top ten countries with the highest obesity rates among adults include Samoa, Tonga, Wallis and Futuna, Cook Islands, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Niue, Nauru, Kiribati, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Ethiopia has the lowest obesity rate in the world at 1%. Countries like Japan (4.5%) and Vietnam (1.7%), despite their large populations, also show low obesity rates, mainly due to traditional diets low in processed foods and high in vegetables and grains.

In North American countries, the adult obesity rate ranges from 22-44%. The leaders are:

  • USA - 42.7%
  • Mexico - 36.9%

Countries with lower obesity rates include Cuba (15.8%), the Dominican Republic (16.6%), Guatemala (21.2%), Honduras (21.4%), and Nicaragua (22%).

South America​

South American countries with high obesity rates:
  • Chile - 34.4%
  • Argentina - 32.4%
  • Suriname - 26.4%
  • Bolivia - 26.2%
  • Brazil - 25.9%
Countries with lower rates include Peru (19.7%), Colombia (21.3%), Paraguay (23.2%), Ecuador (23.4%), and Uruguay (23.7%).

European Continent​

In Europe, the average obesity rate ranges from 10-30%. The leading countries are:
  • Russia - 30.3%
  • Ukraine - 24.8%
  • Spain - 23.8%
  • Hungary - 23.8%
  • Latvia - 22.3%
Countries with lower obesity rates include Italy (10.4%), North Macedonia (10.9%), Romania (10.9%), Bulgaria (13.3%), and Norway (14%).

Africa​

In most countries in central Africa, the overweight rate is 5-9%. Obesity is more prevalent in countries closer to Europe. Libya - 42.4%, Egypt - 35.7%, Tunisia - 26.9%, South Africa - 26.2%, Algeria - 21.8%.

Asian Continent​

In Asia, as in Africa, obesity rates are mostly between 1% and 12%. However, there are some countries with higher rates:
  • Kuwait - 43.8%
  • Qatar - 41.4%
  • Iraq - 33.5%
  • Georgia - 33.2%
  • Jordan - 32.7%

Australia​

In Australia, the obesity rate is 31.3%. In nearby New Zealand, the rate is 34.3%.
