Awesome thread mate. I was wondering if you can tell me how to properly secure wordpress.

The knowledge shared in this thread is fantastic. I just hope you can solve my BIG problem!

Let me just add that I am a total newbie to SEO etc, I have very basic know-how but I can follow instruction.

The mighty Google simply will not index one of my WP sites and I don't know why, I have tried everything that I know and read about, even to manually "fetch" the pages and submit them but it just wont have it, any ideas anyone please??

Hey I was wondering if you could make a post about which plugins are the most useful for a blog that automate things for you. Such as social bookmarking and pings and other automated things.

Also after I create a new post what do I do with it now to give it the biggest boost in SEO in a short amount of time. Not talking about making link pyramids and all that stuff just pings bookmarks and the like. Where What How much?

Thank you!

That was very thoughtful of you OrginalEXE. Keep it up man. You're such a nice guy. Goodluck buddy!

Ok, i have a big problem.. I'm totally new to wordpress but all was going well until i edited my functions.php file to display custom fields.. Now all i can see of my site is:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/basketba/public_html/wp-*content/themes/NiceZone/functi*ons.php on line 40

Tried to re upload the theme via FTP but i can't even see the fields there. I have no idea what to do, any help would be amazing!

Nevermind, sorted that in the end. I have a new problem now though which is that my sites theme (nicezone, downloaded from here) Has pre- set custom fields that i don't know how to edit.. I mean, i know how to edit custom fields but there seem to be parts of them that appear in posts that i cant alter. Again, i'd be much obliged..

I am really excited to see someone offering help with WP. From time to time it drives me crazy - If I can get advice from you that would be great - cheers

I was trying to add code to my functions.php, I deleted it, but now I when I go to my wordpress admin panel I get this message

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/paul11/public_html/mysitename.com/wp-content/themes/atahualpa/functions.php:982) in/home/paul11/public_html/mysitename.com/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 881

Site loads ok, just cannot get into wordpress admin, any ideas?

Hey man you originally helped me with this

I know want to try something a little different for CTR reasons but can't seem to get it right. I want to make to right widget area wider and the main content area smaller to accommodate for the wider widget area.

I tried this;

#content {
margin: 0 34% 0 2%;
width:61%;
}
#secondary {
margin-right: 2.6%;
width:30%;
}

But the widget area is dropping below the content area now so it is way down the page :S

Hi OriginalEXE,

Would you be able to help on Matt Carter's free Wordpress theme? He is offering to the public for free without support, and the theme is actually having some issues.

pic1.jpgHi! What I want to ask is this: recently I see a lot of blogs displaying some kind of profile picture in the search results (as seen on the picture). How can I do this? Is it some kind of plugin? If so, what is it called?

Same question here. Does it have to do with Google+ profile?

I have a question on how to configure permalinks for custom post types? I have a reviews blog that has a permalink structure right now of /reviews/postname but the categories show as review-cats/category_name and review-tags/tag_title ... I want it to be like /reviews/category_name/postname and for the other two to just be /reviews/category_name and reviews/tag_title ... how can this be accomplished?

That thing is called rel=author, rel=me. You can achieve that by opening a google plus profile, filling out your picture and some other details. Once you have the details. You can simply add the rel=author tag in your WP profile or the blog software that you are using.

You can read more about this in these resources.

@directaxcess & synfig, thanks for the useful links. Now we know how to implement it.

I make no claims this works .. use sparingly ... this is scavenged from another thread: you will find more info there to assist

INSTANTLY Index Any Link! (Without Pinging!)

I've been using a very nice tip that will index any page without pinging. After doing this... my pages show up in the SERPs in seconds!

Google+ Profile Shares

Here's How it Works:

Unlike simply +1'ing a URL, a Google+ "link share" must be done from a profile page. You can't simply throw a bunch of +1's at a link, you MUST post the URL on a profile page for this to work properly, and you MUST use the link sharing button.

It seems that it might not always work for brand new profiles. Make sure a few people follow you first, this only takes a few minutes. I've been using this instead of Pinging, its from Google's own home. This method is safer and its directly from Google themselves.

A Word of Caution:
At the moment, this is extremely effective. However, I would imagine that there should be some caution taken when you do this. Don't over-do it, and don't submit garbage URL's.
