woo v shopify Whats best?

Hi

I want to setup 3 stores for dropshipping. I want to know what is best using Shopify or making my own store. I have merchants so taking payments is no problem. I am also confident I can knock up a half decent store using a template. I wanted to know if Shopify has any advantages for marketing the store against my own website or any other advantages I should consdier. One consideration I have is, my budget. It is on the low side of nothing.

Any advice is welcome.

I have few stores at shopify, I used to have them in wordpress with woo and I heard a lot of shopify so I checked 1 store and I really liked it! it really easy to use and the sites look amazing and more professional (that was the important thing to me) and when the store have any problem they will help you and fix it asap 24/7. at woo I had 1 problem with connection to paypal and took more than a week to fix.... this is my opinion, if you have already a store and it's working good you don't need to change but if you not satisfied or don't have yet do it with shopify. I also have a link that gives you 30 day trial for free at shopify
 
Woo is free, shopify isn't.

Simple.

If you have no budget, all the freebie trials in the world are not going to help because if you don't make enough to pay for next months subscription then your store will be closed.
 
Agree. If you have no budget it's better to choose wp + woo. It's not that bad actually for creating a store

Woo has a setup wizard which walks you through it, even easier now
 
1. WOO+Wordpress is free while shopify is not
2. WOO+Wordpress needs a few website building skills, while shopify is sample
3. Both Woo+wordpress or Shopify has many kinds of apps (plugins)
4. As you said you are doing dropshipping, it seems that Shopify has more fulfillment options according to the blog of fulfillment company ChinaDivision.
 
sounds like you should stick to woo, since you've got good customization skills, that way you can build many more stores, and keep your costs down.

Not looking professional has more to do than your lack of skills rather than woo.

OT. I go with woo because in shopify everything little thing has monthly subscriptions plus those theme prices has gone up a 100%. Shopify has extreme good customer service but for me it lacks freedom.
 
There is nothing wrong with woocommerce, it is up to you, if you are not bloating wordpress with loads of plugins. if you put wordpress/woocommerce on decent hosting (I mean having PHP7+) you will get a lot of performance and a great looking store.

But one thing I have noticed.. everydropshipping guy is keen to use Shopify, there must be some tools or flexibility so people are choosing shopify over woocommerce.

There is some pro's and con's with shopify.
Some of shopifys settings are pretty basic. you can't for example choose a category to have free shipping, so you have to put in 1 kilogram for every fucking product and then make a rule that every product that weighs 1 kg equals free shipping. This has been a problem for a couple years now and they won't fix it because they have plugins you can buy for 10 bucks per month. And some of the sellers force you to pay XX/XXX per month to sell their products.
And have in mind you have to pay shopify for using their servce each month too.
 
Thank you for the replies. I have decided to go with woo. I get the feeling if I have problems with woo. I can get a little help and learn along the way. I know I could be up and running more quickly with shopify. But, on reading this thread I get the feeling that once shopify have you. It will be hard to migrate away from them. As the feeling is always one of, this is a ball ache. I just pay this month and do it next month.

Are their good options for help with the dropship suppliers for woo. My one concern is a change in price. I don't want to get burnt.

I have done Amazon to Ebay drop shipping in the past and it always made money. Looking now the market is too tight and ebay are sh!t. I became tired of customers being able to take the p!ss and manipulate buyer protection for their own ends. Plus it was time-consuming checking Amazon every day to see if they had stock or the price had changed. I am a little worried I will find my self in the same boat with my own store. I know things exist for Amazon to ebay in the USA. But that is not my yard.

Woo's customer service compared to shopify is really shit because it's open source but there are a few very good fb groups where people help each other out.
 
woo would be good choice if not making much money..as their is recurring fees..but with woo their would be more setup work than shopify...if having enough time to given for setupn all then woo will be ok

In another sense, nothing is free really. If one decides to use woocommerce/magento/opencart or any other ecommerce solution, he/she will need hosting and developer to get the site up and running. Shopify manages that for the user and charges monthly fee..

So.. there's nothing that is free afterall.

In theory you can get those for free so yeah, you can run woo completely free.

run a serious ecommerce site with free hosting, crappy free theme and without ssl? Theoretically possible may be, but practically waste of time.

You can even install a free SSL but we weren't talking about practical, were talking about free or not :D
I run everything on a VPS but the free stuff noobs can use to practise.

crappy as hell lol..

but yeah.. Should be good enuff for learning.. Agreed.

By the way.. dont even try installing magento on a shared server ( no matter if free or paid) if you don't want your hoster to chase you with a shotgun :p
