one of my sites is ranked on google and its hosting is about to expire in few days. so im thinking of moving the hosting from godaddy to another provider. Will this affect seo? and do i need to change anything after moving the hosting?(for instance- updating sitemaps, or anything else?)

Yes, it will affect, mainly because of loading speed. If the website loading speed is better on your next hosting or equal then everything will be fine.

its depends upon your choice (hosting)

my suggestion would be, if your ranking is solid and can cover your hosting renewal cost easily within 1 or 2 weeks then don't change it, it might be risky, so better don't play with it.

Directly SEO algorithms does not depend on hosting however website speed and downtime may affect indirectly to your SEO

If the structure of website does not change and there is no downtime, there should not be any issue. Assuming you are opting for better speed.

What I've tried before was moving a new hosting package but with the same hosting provider. I backed up everything first and the site was down for a few hours but rankings are the same.

Avoiding downtime is the key, as already mentioned by others.
If anything goes wrong, switch back to GoDaddy immediately.

If you are using SSL certificates, make sure you have them on the new host as well.
