Hi guys,
I'm new here and really looking to spend some quality time with this tremendous forum.

Will my Idea work?

okay,so, I'v posted a classified add In a local newspaper.
The Ad Is going to be up In a couple of days.
The news-paper has a tremendous following and It took me 20$ to get a listing for a single day.

I'm trying to provide free web designing to people and hopefully they'll realize that a site Is no good without hosting and sign-up via my affiliate link.

here's the exact listing :
Free Webdesigning on purchase of web hosting package worth 40$/-.Contact XXX or email at [email protected]


Do you guys think this will work? and how many Inquiry's should I get If i live In a city having a population of 15,00,0000
also,the paper Is one of the best read papers In the city.

Also,I was thinking about not mentioning the hosting cost In the advertisment and making It something like.
Free web designing contact xxxx or email [email protected]
but then I thought that people would actually get pissed of once they find out they have to pay for hosting so I chose to mention the approximate hosting charge they'll need to pay.
Would this work?
anyone tried anything like this before here?I'd be great to hear about your experiences using this method.

however,I'v allready posted the add and Its going to get Issued tomorrow.
I heard someone say that you get around 400 Inquiries per commercial.

Hope I get atleast half Of that and atleast half of that convert Into hosting signups.

I think using the word "webdesigning" is a little unprofessional?

Yea, I would not mention hosting in the initial ad, let them get roped in to your marketing funnel and then introduce the hosting.

I read a post (possibly on here?) about 3 guys who pushed free websites for a couple of months, promoting hostgator's affiliate program for hosting. I'm pretty sure they built around 400 free sites using hostgator templates in a couple months time - which would be $48,000 if they got paid their commissions.
 
2 Days since the ad got released,believe It or not,I didn't even get a single Inquirer.
do classified ads get late responses,or I should just forget the 20$ ?:brick:
note:the newspaper has a readership of around 8 million.

It's always worth trying new things but let me tell you where you went wrong. First, using a yahoo email screams unprofessional or con-artist. So there goes your internet experienced clients. For the "newbies" who no nothing about the internet, "webdesigning" might as well be in Greek to them.

You should of gone with something like: "I will build your website and provide hosting/ect. for $XX.XX!" - John Doe, Superior Services Inc. www.superiorservices.com [email protected] .

I know this is simple but it needs to be when dealing with the general public. You know when you try and explain what you do to people and their eyes glaze over? Most people can understand website and sometimes hosting but that's as far as it goes.

I think you might have something with this and it would be worth trying it one more time for $20.
 
You'll need to do two things:
1. Set a deadline and improve you offer by being more specific. Ex:
Want to Start Your Own Internet Business
Free $50 Affiliate Website
For First 50 People Only
Ph: 555-555-5555
FreeAffiliateWebsite.com​

2. When you finish speaking to them then ask them if they have hosting because you'll need some place to place the website? Do they have a domain name? They'll say no and then you say you can look around and find something for them. Usually it will run about $10/mo or $99/yr, is that in their budget? Which way would they prefer to pay monthly or annually? Then tell them you'll see what you can find for them.

Then call them back when the website is done. Ask them if they found a host provider, yet? If not, then you have one if they're interested. Then set it up through your reseller account. Never go for commission from a company. Always use a reseller. Companies are well known for not paying commissions and you're working too hard to get clients to just hand them clients.

Tell them this:
Explain the benefits of having a website.
You want to have a (personel, 4 ur company, store)y website?
We gonna do everything for you....
Visit xxxx website. or cal us xxxxnumber.

They will need a webdesign, hosting, bla bla... promote some affiliate hosting-domain providers..sell your design..
 
Why not use a rhetorical question in your ad? For example:

"Having website problems? Need help quick?"
"Need a proffessional website?"
"Need help with hosting your own website?"

Etc.
If you need to pay extra money for a bigger ad space or more words, i think it would be worth a try!
A lot of people spend $200+ on "testing" so at $20 i'd just go for it, no big loss :)
 
I certainly agree that a readership of 8 million and a cost of only $20 is worth a few more tries. Tweak your ad, try another version, whatever, give a few more attempts!

Even if 0.1% respond to the ad (8,000), and only 1% of those buy (80), and you make $10/sale (I'm sure you're getting more, just an example) then you are making $800 off of your $20 ad.

Keep trying!
 
I thought of a method similar to this so I will post it here.

Basically the same free website offer, but I will put them on a 12month contract for my hosting services ( basically I am hosting their site on my hostgator baby account ) so it's 20-30$/month for hosting...

Sales funnel = Emails, post cards, ad-s in newspapers ---> sales page (Educates them, pitch etc... few places left..)
It should work.. if not then it needs some tweaking, but it will work.
