Hey there everyone, so today i bought a domain in with the term amazon in the url

When i was pointing the nameservers my brother had mentioned to me there is a possibility i could get sued


Do you guys think i will be sued for using the term "amazon" as the first keyword in my domain? is there any disclaimer i could make to prevent them from sueing? i came across a few domains that have the term amazon in them but are not apart of them in anyway

EDIT: i am planning on calling them tomorrow
I didnt know the HQ was here in washington thought that was cool

Yes, not really sued.. they will request to take it down first, then hand them the domain.

If you still using the domain after the warning, you can sued.
 
Sell them the domain after the request to take it down.
 
im new to all of this but i think the word "amazon" is related to to much other stuff for them to to try to sue you. If it was like go0gle or w@lmart which is less broad i would be careful.

EDIT: dont call them imho
 
IF they sue you say the amazon river inspired you....the river was called amazon for hundreds of years before amazon.com existed.....
 
I'm pretty sure you can use the term "Amazon" in your domain as long as it's an affiliate site and you're not using it to trick users into thinking that they're using the REAL Amazon but this is something you'd have to check on. As far as a disclaimer, something that the following would probably work well:

Amazonxxxx.com is by no way affiliated directly or indirectly with Amazon.com

I hope this helps and I wish you luck. Again, be sure to check on these things with them and don't just take mine or anyone else's word for it because getting sued or in trouble with Amazon on a legal level would be a nightmare!

You are most definitely going to get served a take-down notice. You could redirect traffic to another site with your affiliate links. You could also do some research and find out where amazon is going to come at you from, and block all traffic from the geographic jurisdiction. That is unless they have a policy to scan domaintools for sites containing 'amazon', in which case they'll come at you that way. Even so, you could redirect select visitors based on traffic signatures, but its a cat and mouse, and so you will get caught. Can you do what you need to do and get out?
 
I was in the same situation few years ago. Amazon offered me 50 bucks for the domain.

They won't sue you, it's expensive.
 
Some of the advice is awful, you can't claim ignorance, especially if you are using it to list amazon products, they will get you to hand over the domain. I would register a new domain if you plan on working hard on it, could also cost you your amazon affiliate account which is just not worth it
 
You are using a broad word that is not their property lol they cant do anything
its like using a word Car or house and asking if someone who has that in their name will sue you
 
you will get a take down notice if the site has anything related to amazon on it (review site) and I think its against their affiliate terms too
 
Never! you can't use the name of any website like "Amazon", "Google" or "WordPress" in your domain name forget it...
 
LOL you wont get sued for that dont worry man, ive even seen sites like ebaysucks.com!
 
OMG lol I should make amazonsucks, pile up a crapload of negative reviews and then offer to sell it to them.....

In all seriousness I think the word "Amazon" applies to so much more than the company that you have nothing to worry about. That is at least until Amazon buys the Amazon.
