I am looking to set up a group of blogs only with unique and high quality content, with links to each other.

Will google count this as a private blog network and penalize for SEO? Advice needed thanks.

I don't think so.

I am planning to use the same host and install google analytics on the same account. Will this have an effect on SEO?

Group of blogs! How many?

You can do links between a group of blogs. If you are giving outbound links from all those blogs to some other domains means there will be a problem.

Google is against building links, so there is a risk involved. Be smart!

Maximum about 5, can't be too much because I need to maintain and update them every week just like other legitimate blogs. Outbound link is unavoidable as I will need to link to references, but I am not planning to sell links. The main purpose of my blogs is not about building links.

5 Blogs mean there won't be any issues. Yes, Outbound links are necessary. But you can not give the link a particular site from all those blogs.

Yes, google MIGHT view this as a private blog network and act accordingly. To be safe:

One, if the blogs aren't contextual to one another, then make sure to no follow the links. Two, make sure all the blogs are quality sites, each with their own privacy page, terms of service etc. And three, avoid linking from the footer as much as you can.
