Why we should all support/like the OWS movement

This thread is not about politics

Thoughout the world there are tens of thousands of young people protesting Wall Street for various reasons. Why this is a good thing for IMer's is because it means less people are going to get into IM since they are too focused about protesting. Theres college grads protesting because they cant get a job. Yet they are probably to stupid to join Fiverr or elance,or start their own website. Even if you don't have a computer,you could still go to the library and create a blogspot account and get adsense on it. Or you could offer article writing services if your an English grad and you don't have a job.

Even if these people were not occupying, I doubt they would be tough competition in IM. They are too lazy and/or stupid to create a job for themselves. They think someone else owes it to them.

The OWS movement is very bad for IMers, working people in general and business owners large and small. These people are demanding that they recieve benefits, goods and services that they do not earn. Who is going to pay for these benefits? Why people who work their ass off to achieve success. People like you and me. I don't want the US to turn into Greece, but sometimes it seems like most Americans do.

Couldn't agree more. But I don't agree about it being bad for IMer's.. really these people are just blatantly stupid and have zero ambition.

I would generally consider myself a liberal and a socialist but I have to agree. Most of the OWSers don't seem to have any real understanding of what it is that they're protesting about or any clear outcomes that they want to achieve. Instead of sitting around in the street chanting kumbaya and fighting with policemen who could be off fighting real crimes, the OWSers could be out there trying to build something for themselves and improve their lot.

If no one will "give" you a job, then go out there and make one for yourself like us hard working IMers! But instead they just want more handouts from the government and especially from hard working business owners who can ill-afford to pay out even more to their lazy employess in this rough economic climate.

What's worse is that we already have this proven, tried and tested method for effecting social change called "voting." But unfortunately we have a situation where the politicians pander to the 99%ers who want more handouts and so we'll get more of the same, instead of the austerity measures, cutbacks in government in spending and deregulation of small businesses that we really need to get out of this financial mess.

They are not "entitled" to anything. You have to work for your money. I don't get where this country went so wrong with an entire generation looking for a free ride (and yes, I'm part of this generation not some cranky old man).

Its a bunch of kids that went to college and think for some reason that entitles them to start out in a 6 figure job after going to a couple random job interviews; it doesn't. You have to get work experience too buddy and everyone starts somewhere - the vast majority of people do not start in the exact position at the top of their career ladder!

I always think that I am not competing with others but rather they are competing with me.

Who is really the "greedy" one. The man who works hard for enormous wealth over his entire adult lifetime or the kids that are sitting on the sidewalk for over a month now demanding a free ride.

Couldn't agree more with both the OP and others in this thread. If there are no jobs--go out and create one. Learn sales and copywriting. Those two skills will pretty much pay your way in ANY industry. But instead we have a bunch of people saying "Ew, SALES! No way! I want a high-paying job in [insert industry here]!"

Who IS entitled to our money? Huge industries(that have fucked up our country in ways from the recession, to poison food, to allowing climate change to happen because they absolutely must not stop producing so much emissions, to destroying our natural sources of water because we absolutely must keep driving oil based cars(although we could EASILY be independent from oil right now if it wasn't so unprofitable for such powerful people...)) that get awarded it because they pay politicians? Lol. Government exists ONLY to serve the people, and right now it's priorities seem to be vested in big business.

The man who goes to "work" and does nothing but manipulate values of money made by other people are nothing but leeches, and never did anything to add to the world, and thusly don't deserve anything.

In a world where there is more money and possibilities than EVER, corporations have the most money they've ever had, and there isn't enough work for near record amounts of people in our country, AND the government just keeps giving money to the big businesses, is a time when our current system is failing us.

OWSers know exactly what they're protesting, but the mass media tells you that they don't know what they're doing, and thusly that is now the public opinion of the movement. The man who has enormous wealth and lets people starve to death because they want to hoard money, while the people sitting on the sidewalk can't find a decently paying job if they want to... who is greedy there, indeed.

Please inform me, brother. Many respected economists say that our current system is outdated and corrupt, and have been saying so for years, but unfortunately, since mass media is controlled by the banks, they don't get as large a voice as the people saying trickle down bullshit.

Our finances are mismanaged and nigh evil in our country, and world right now, and it gravely needs to be righted.

When she was referring to Liberal, she meant Liberal Vs. Conservative. Socialist views would be liberal as opposed to conservative. From a United States stand point at least....

Protesting is one thing and it has its uses. What I care about is if and how the alternatives can work efficiently. Which is the usual point where things go south for most theories.

Different type of liberal

Here we use it as there are basically two ends of the spectrum political party wise, liberal on one side and conservative on the other and people fall in place somewhere between the two depending on their beliefs and views on issues. A socialist would certainly be on the liberal side of this, not the conservative side.

What do people who decry greed and corruption have to gain? What is their ulterior motive, why do they say these things? There is not one. However, when people support our current system of greed and corruption, they essentially squander for their "piece of the pie", they hold onto that "american dream" that is sold to them from birth, that if they defend the super rich, one day they will be super rich! Although I can certainly empathize with business owners who have honed their craft, worked tireless hours, but they are a very different breed from the snakes in power in this world who inherited their fathers ill begotten fortunes.

By saying I don't care about economics, I mean I do not care about the semantics of it so specifically, I'm not trying to argue it because it is such a raucous arena. I care about the wellbeing of every human on this planet, and for every million dollars that people who(largely) haven't worked for it, or have lied and cheated to get it hoard, a million dollars worth of food isn't given to starving people, and I simply cannot, and will never accept that, as I believe that to be purely evil.

@jazzc I apologize if I was being a little abrasive before. I tend to forget that there are so many people on here from different countries with different meanings for certain words and phrases. Just out of curiosity, where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?
