Does it really make a difference now?

Yes, it still make a difference now. We still benefit from that kind of pricing. Also, 37, 97, 997 works too!

Yup, it's psychological.

If you sell, make your numbers smaller like $89, $99 etc.

If you try to give a value to smth, like these so-called guru's, make your numbers bigger like $100, $500..

Physiologically, yes they do.

I can't remember it correctly, but I read about a study of different pricing and the 7.99$ type of models gave better results.

Only psychological nothing special. It has good results thats why mostly use this.

99p sell better then £1

But in the uk most 1p, 2p are being stopped .

You could also play with sizing. E.g. Emphasize the new base digit by visually minimizing the digits after the decimal: $19 99

Maybe in the past but now buyers are smart.

You know who else is smart. Marketers. If it didn't work some companies would be leaving millions on the table all because of a 1p drop.

I'm pretty sure it goes beyond our surface intellect, on a subconscious level without even knowing we are drawn to this psychological pricing.

You eyes reading and the brain decides the visual input well before we are consciously aware of it.

This 9 ending works best when you combine it with left digit bias.

For example dropping from £2.00 to £1.99 will have a bigger impact tha dropping from £1.50 to £1.49.

That's because the left digit is the same in the second example.

As a bonus you should also drop the £€$ in the lower price as well £100 becomes 99 visually its half the size.

Would you say, it converts better to price your ebook at 1.99 than 1.49?

so basically, an increase of 0.50 leads to more conversions?

Yeah theres been a few studies that show it works at a higher price point.

I will try and dig them up but in one experiment it showed that there was a higher conversion at 1.99 than 1.79.

There's a good post about it here, it's a lot of psychology involved.
It's worth stating that these things work in unison with other factors and aren't magic bullets. However stack some psychological influences on top of each other and you can greatly increase conversation.
