So I was going through my Linkedin newsfeed today and found out this post by a guy who basically wrote down why SEO is worthless
The below is what he wrote:
Now before all the SEO people attack me, hear me out. SEO has a place and can be a STEP in the right direction (Notice How I Said Step).
The truth is SEO's power is very limited. While getting your business to the top ranking on google pages can be beneficial, its fickle and there are some things you should know about it first.
SEO,
-Will Not necessarily get you loads more leads
-Will Not build your brand
-Will Not re target visitors
-Will Not draw in people who are not already looking for your company
SEO works only if people are googling your company. This means the new SEO guy you hired and the little online form on your website are doing NOTHING if you don't get loads of organic traffic to your site BEFORE implementing SEO.
This is why SEO is a possible tool for some businesses but not a "one size fits all" solution to larger problems in your businesses marketing strategy.
So to recap, SEO does have A place and can be a start if your business already has a good bit of website traffic. Just don't expect it to be like flipping a extra revenue switch.
This often needs a more advanced paid traffic campaign to deliver incredible results.
He basically means you are not in control of the traffic when you are doing SEO and that paid traffic is the way to go!
Thoughts?
SEO has more impact than paid traffic in my opinion.
I've never really liked SEO as a method to grow a business (lack of patience).
My vote goes to email marketing.
I find it to be not unlike Pandora's box. Google makes the most money when they send a searcher to the highest quality post. This is because the best quality will retain the reader longer thus allowing for the maximum time for ads to be shown. This we know.
Sigh seo won’t get you more leads I stopped reading at that... anyone feel me?

I am learning more and more that Seo is not just about links but rather about having tons of content and building up your site to be an authoriry in the niche. By having more content and targetting more keywords, you are effictively throwing out a bigger fishing net and increasing your chances of ranking. You are also providing better value to visitors. So not all seo methods are created equal. It is the best to model your strategy after successful big authority sites inatead of just trying to rank one page by building a ton of links.
Build out your site until you outbuild your competiton!
Yes but with 500 page site you do not have to build links to all 500 pages in order to rank most of them. 5 page site will struggle to cover all the topics that 500 page site can.You can still rank a 5 page website for high comp keywords, you cannot rank a ton of content for high comp keywords, not without the backlinks, as i said many, many times: "content is NOT king in SEO"
It is still links that is the King of SEO, then comes internal linking, that will be the Queen of SEO, content is maybe the Jacks, not that important for SEO as people who sell content make it out to be.
