Why SEO is Worthless

who has the money they can do. I am not in the situation so we need seo traffic.

SEO or not SEO, now, in marketing online, you need to be clever.
So first skill : be clever

Now, about seo, all depends of the niche in competition.
If you are building a new website for traveling, you won't go anywhere because competition is too high, and most of the results are with ads.
But if you are doing in small and tiny niche, you can use SEO to drive traffic and not use any ads.

So like everything in life, all depends of the target

So I was going through my Linkedin newsfeed today and found out this post by a guy who basically wrote down why SEO is worthless

The below is what he wrote:

Now before all the SEO people attack me, hear me out. SEO has a place and can be a STEP in the right direction (Notice How I Said Step).

The truth is SEO's power is very limited. While getting your business to the top ranking on google pages can be beneficial, its fickle and there are some things you should know about it first.

SEO,
-Will Not necessarily get you loads more leads
-Will Not build your brand
-Will Not re target visitors
-Will Not draw in people who are not already looking for your company

SEO works only if people are googling your company. This means the new SEO guy you hired and the little online form on your website are doing NOTHING if you don't get loads of organic traffic to your site BEFORE implementing SEO.

This is why SEO is a possible tool for some businesses but not a "one size fits all" solution to larger problems in your businesses marketing strategy.

So to recap, SEO does have A place and can be a start if your business already has a good bit of website traffic. Just don't expect it to be like flipping a extra revenue switch.

This often needs a more advanced paid traffic campaign to deliver incredible results.

He basically means you are not in control of the traffic when you are doing SEO and that paid traffic is the way to go!

Thoughts?

I see some clients of mine who gain good leads and get some good orders because of SEO. If these clients wouldn´t invest in SEO, they would have less sales. But I think it´s true that SEO is not the channel that fits for every company. It can work, but it hasn´t to do so.

I got great results using PPC, especially Google ads. Traffic is laser targetted. If your landing page is well optimized, have good product/service to sell, you can really bank hard.

But people are afraid to spend money to earn money.
They want free traffic so that even if it doesnt bring them sales, they have nothing to loose.

With PPC ads, ones target is to get positive ROI. Once that is achieved, one just need to scale it it up and keep banking for long time.

Best thing is we can start getting targeted traffic from day one. Only issue is not all niches are allowed on Google ads otherwise I would have made 50 sites and run ads on all of them.

My opinion is if you have a new website, start PPC ads immediately while doing SEO in the backend. And after 6 months or so when your SEO efforts brings result, you can get traffic from both the sources.

In past seo was a great strategy. I remember 2008-2012 in non english-sites i was ranked well with only article-marketing, directory submission, auto-approve guest post sites, some web 2.0 and some comments.. And when i targeted the right keywords i was capable to make also 2-3K daily (net income) for loooong periods. But now the SEO has a lot of costs! Im back in business after 3 years pause (2016 to 2019) and i'm pretty sure that now SEO cost a lot of money. Now you need a lot of links from real sites, nice pbns and other expensive stuff, so i'm not really sure what is better ppc or seo in 2019.

Maybe with SEO you have some limits and you can loose everything with some shitty google-updates, while paid traffic has not limits and you can make a lot of money if you have a great budget..

I have a website where I just applied the basics of SEO and it made me around 2 clients per month from the very few 10 people who visited it each month. That just to say that SEO is really great.
Yes, you may want to know why it has just 10 visits per month. It's because I optimised it for a very unique keyword in a foreign language which has 0 monthly search volume. And it worked like a charm just for that. And that was enough to make me around 1 200 $ per month.

On the other hand, I've already tested paid ads with just 4 $ invested to earn more than 100 $ in a day.

Having witnessed the power of those 2 kind of traffic generation, I know that both of them are great.

I've never really liked SEO as a method to grow a business (lack of patience).

My vote goes to email marketing.

My question for you is : how do you acquire the email adresses in the first place ? Or, you scrape them for cold emailing ?
I've already tried that and I converted 2 sales from 50 email sent. I don't know if that's good or not, but I stopped it quickly due to lack of time.

SEO is not worthless and never will be, but most important is you need to know when to choose it as your promotion method. It may look bad with no guaranteed results its hard to justify huge investment in SEO and i think everyone agree with this, SEO has its pros and cons but so do paid traffic. Due to higher competition every day in every niche, both SEO and paid traffic are only getting more expensive and people, small companies who can't afford it will have to drop off..

I find it to be not unlike Pandora's box. Google makes the most money when they send a searcher to the highest quality post. This is because the best quality will retain the reader longer thus allowing for the maximum time for ads to be shown. This we know.

No they don't... They make money by sending "free traffic" to unrelated and most of the time very outdated content so the visitor comes back and clicks an ad, just do a search for anything technical and you will see shitty content from 2011 be at first page right under the Amazon listings and advertisements of course.

If you really believe that Google gives a shit about sending its users to the right content then you really need to start looking and researching the serps better my friend, Google only cares for Google, which is their right of course but there is something to be said when it comes to user experience.

@OP SEO is still worth it if you know how to do it right

I mean ranking in the top of Google isn’t that different compared to running a search campaign on AdWords. Another one of these “valuable” opinions.

I am learning more and more that Seo is not just about links but rather about having tons of content and building up your site to be an authoriry in the niche. By having more content and targetting more keywords, you are effictively throwing out a bigger fishing net and increasing your chances of ranking. You are also providing better value to visitors. So not all seo methods are created equal. It is the best to model your strategy after successful big authority sites inatead of just trying to rank one page by building a ton of links.

Build out your site until you outbuild your competiton!

You can still rank a 5 page website for high comp keywords, you cannot rank a ton of content for high comp keywords, not without the backlinks, as i said many, many times: "content is NOT king in SEO"

It is still links that is the King of SEO, then comes internal linking, that will be the Queen of SEO, content is maybe the Jacks, not that important for SEO as people who sell content make it out to be.

Yes but with 500 page site you do not have to build links to all 500 pages in order to rank most of them. 5 page site will struggle to cover all the topics that 500 page site can.

Lets all pick a subject we know nothing about and say its shit.

SEO can drive a lot of targeted traffic to your website but the problem is the guys with the big bucks are the one who always win.

I hope you are trolling with this topic ... if not, well then you need to get educated on what SEO really does. If you have a stable business, SEO is the only way to generate a constant traffic.

1. What is the alternative to leads? Social Media Media Buying? :anyway:
2. About the brand, this is half-true. You are not going to build a HUGE brand over SEO... but SEO is all about reputation, trustworthyness, authoritativeness, that is, in short, what a brand actually is... Let's ask Brian Backlinko or Neil Patel to name some, about SEO and brands :D
3. About retargeting. Retargeting is a mkt strategy by itself. Obviously when I go to the WC to shit, I'm not cooking. FFS. But saying that shitting is not useful because I cannot cook is blatant at best
4. Will not build a brand but will not draw people that is not looking for you (namely a brand?). Isn't this a contradiction?

Is that guy/gal trying to sell his/her awesome media buying service? A very popular service amongst lazy marketers nowadays.

With the retargeting argument, the leads shit and the contradiction, it smells from 10 miles away.
