Hi Friends, a Friend of mine recently approached me with a sudden fall in her Search Impressions data.. I have attached the screenshot here!

Now as you can see here the steady fall from 7/21/14 to 9/11/14 can be deemed as okay due to fluctuations of search queries and search interests! But what happened on 9/23/14 caught my attention!

Did this site receive any kinda penalty or anything?? The backlink profile is normal.. as per GWT total backlinks stands at 687. However, as per ahref that is 113 and as per MajesticSEO's Fresh Index TF = 18 and CF = 23

So far the site has only 20 posts! Last post updated was on 1st September 2014. The site uses no blackhat backlinking techniques. In fact all outbound links has rel="nofollow" tag placed. Whatever backlinks is received is primarily due to serious natural link building.

Do you think this drop was for the lack of freshness?? Or am I missing something??

Note: Google manual actions says "No manual webspam actions found."

It's possible that he got an algorithmic penalty (this is different from a manual penalty). The other possibility is that your friend's website is in a seasonal niche where impressions and clicks drop at certain times of the year.

same for me but i have no traffic decrease, i went from 10k impr to 2k imp per day, but my clicks went up

@Zwielicht If it is an algorithmic penalty what made Google to penalize it?? Lack of freshness??

The reason varies between updates. It could be a lack of freshness or it could be 'something else'. I noticed that the drop occurred on the 24th of September. On September 23, Google had begun rolling out Panda 4.1 I believe, so the timing of your drop seems to align with that algorithm update. I need to leave somewhere right now, but I'll try to look into your problem more when I get back later today and I'll post more information on what I think it could be. :)
