Why do so many guru's exist and does it actually make them money?

So I know we have all seen the ads about making money online or a guru trying to sell you a method, but I have to think on rather or not it works. 4 years ago I saw an ad about making money online and it ended up being true, so are some of the gurus telling the truth? It becomes an interesting topic that I feel that most people instantly dismiss.
Also on this topic, just about anyone that's done marketing for over 2 years can be a "guru" in at least one way or another. Just thinking about how much random crap I know is intriguing. Could there be money literally in our own brains that we do not cash on because of our own moral high ground?

Also with this being said, I remember an affiliate website that's whole base was about getting new people to sign up to the affiliate website. The world's best internet scheme, sign up for $20 a month off of someone's recommendation and then get told to have other people sign up for you to make income. That kind of intrigued me because it was the world's best pyramid scheme. It got me to thinking if I wrote an ebook about how to make money online and sold it for $20 and the ebook literally only told people to sell the ebook to other people online... how long would that last?

... I feel like these questions are probably coming from it being 2 am and me being on my 3rd cup of coffee... damn my left eye is twitching again.

You literally could buy stuff to look like an expert and a well to do person in IM just by working minimum wage.

For the content you just have to gather rewrite stuff that has been out as long as 80 years ago.

Because it's not difficult to become an Internet marketing guru.

Not only is this industry mostly unregulated, meaning anyone with an Internet connection can get into it, but it attracts some of the most credulous people on the planet. Go read any of the brag threads on this forum and you'll see a recurring pattern.

1. Some guy who's contributed nothing to the forum creates a thread talking about their earnings and success.
2. The interest of the hopeless is piqued.
3. The hopeless feel hopeful and try to get information on the guru's methods.
4. The guru provides vague explanations and fanciful stories.
5. The hopeless zerg rush the guru's inbox with hastily written messages.
6. Some intuitive members will try to call the guru out on his lies.
7. The hopeless defend the guru with their honour.

You see the problem here, right? Not very many people bother researching anything, which leads to these gurus building up a cult following quick. We had one member here a couple of months ago join the forum and claim to make a large sum of money. Further research showed that his parents were involved in his purported success, possibly by providing him with significant startup capital.

Something else to consider is that this industry is still somewhat of an enigma. So much so that anyone claiming to have the key to success will be revered as a prophet among the inexperienced so long as they remain convincing. Contrary to popular belief, not all noobs are broke, which is what makes noob-baiting so popular among gurus; it's easier to target the uninformed people with money.

I'm getting real sick of these so called "guru's" they are actually marketing the marketeers. Almost all the fb ads I see is involving them and most of their webinars are shit!

They lure you with some crap and it basically going to turn out into a 90 min sales pitch. Now I must admit in some of these webinars I found some valuable info but I hate it when they say they want to help you or something like they want to teach you..

In the end they want to help themselves which is logical as any business does but don't come with cheap words to me.

I haven't spend a single dollar in these things, all that I learned so far I got for free, BHW, Udemy coupons and those 1k $$ training courses and case studies, a lot of them can be found for free on the Internet if you search hard enough.

I agree with you, but anyone that's done any kind of method online can "technically" be an expert in a subject. So I'm at the point that I just want to start cranking out $4.99 ebooks on eBay, Fiverr, Facebook, and other similar sites explaining simple marketing tasks to morons.

Yes and this is same thing like if you get a headache you pop a pill and it goes away. You can say what pill it is to your friends and charge them $4.99 for advice. Does that make you a doctor? Nope. Will it make you some money? Probably yes. Same thing IMO goes around with gurus.

If they knew "secrets" on how to make $xxx.xxx monthly profit, they would not share it. Ever. Especially not in a ebook that can spread online in couple of hours.

Gurus are like politicians of IM - all promise, very little value provided (if at all) and the people "voting" for them (meaning spending their money in guru's case) are all sheep that think they will become millionaires within 24 hours by just pressing a magic button. And yes, of course they make money. The world has 7+ billion people and most are sheep, not to mention poor of course.

Explaining simple marketing tasks to people who have trouble understanding them sounds fine. It's a similar concept as the "For Dummies" reference books. However, writing an e-book explaining these tasks telling people they'll be successful and calling yourself the [Insert glorified title here] of Internet marketing would be going too far.

I tend to seldom use the word "Expert". In my opinion, doing something (e.g., a method or a project) a few times doesn't qualify someone as an expert. For example:

• I've repaired an HVAC unit a couple of times, but I'm not an expert in HVAC repair.
• I've replaced some of the piping in my home and repaired the toilets, but I'm not an expert plumber.
• I've restored a classic car before, but I'm not an expert mechanic.
• I once had a fairly successful YouTube channel, but I'm not an expert in social media marketing. On the contrary, I'm awful at it.

Calling yourself an expert in the presence of a seasoned tradesman would be met with derisive laughter. But not in the online marketing industry, and that's precisely the problem. In this industry, you can try something, or not, claim you've made a boat load of money, and there will be a horde of people believing your story without asking for a shred of evidence. Try doing that in almost any other industry and they'll make you prove it.

It does make them money. Just look at tai lopez. Nothing against that guy, somethimes he even inspires me. But he sells courses claiming that you can make a million dollars in a year. I call bullshit on stuff like that.

Making 1 million dollars a year is not hard at all, but you won't find the info necessary to do that in online courses though.

I agree and I see where you are coming from. Although I am the son of a legit "world class" mechanic. Did you know that they can actually go to school and get a little plaque that says that? It's when you hit master in every category. Anyway, beyond my dream of one day being "world class" in something... I do agree that I can not promise to make anyone money in anything. Especially since most people buying into gurus are too lazy to google something.

What about reverse psychology? I'll tell them that I can give them an exact way to make money but they never will because they are too lazy to try. Then I'll literally just send them a link to this forum.... also speaking on this, it's 4:40 am and my right eye is twitching. Maybe I should sleep on this idea and see if it is as good sounding in the morning.

"Making 1 million dollars a year is not hard at all" HOMIE IT IS DIFFICULT. I write about 12 hours a day 6 days a week and I only turn a little over 6 figures a year. You gotta be lucky or really gifted to break 1m a year.

Making a million a year is really hard. I will never be able to make that much. Probably not even in 10 years haha, but I indeed meant that is almost impossible to make a million a year from a online course. I only wrote it in a wrong sence I guess. (Not a native speaker)

I've only ever heard of the apprentice, journeyman, and master mechanic titles before from my grandfather (he was a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force). Though if I recall correctly, those are all legitimate titles that are earned in the world of skilled trades and not self-bestowed (unchallenged, I might add) like "expert" often is in this industry.

Smart quote, obviously your brain is working better than mine is right now. Maybe it was an award then? Idk, he worked at a Chevrolet place for like 15 years. His last mastery was in electrical and then transmissions. He ended up quitting the dealership to start his own shop when I was 13, I worked for him during summers and after I dropped out of high school at 15. But sure enough, if you walk into the dealership there's a plaque with his crooked smile on it. Actually thinking about it, yeah... they don't put faces on certifications. Now both eyes are twitching...

I'm not against when people selling a little knowledge to auddience without any knowledge, but there are too many of this "guru's" playing just with the dreams of the people.
sometimes it's funny... we have 2017 people wanna make money online, but they actually don't know how to google. I think I find my niche

If you want to become a guru of something, may I suggest you quickly jump onto the newly emerging Crypto Gurus that are popping up everywhere.

@mickyfu yeah because it is easy to talk about something where the majority know near to nothing.
