Why do more people not do Whitehat Authority sites??

So im new to all this, but spent the past week reading LOTS of threads/methods (like 3-4 hours a day) along with peaking every once in awhile in the past 2 years to read abit..

It seems like Whitehat Authority sites not only are the safest method, but also bring in a moderately good income (a good site can go from $50/day upwards) - so why don't more people do it??

Is it because it actually takes hard work?? Other methods, while being extremely risky and profits may or may not be better, are usually automated tasks that you can do 30 mins a day and thats it.. while an authority site obviously takes at minimum a couple hours a day.. But isnt that couple of hours a day for lowered risk and peace of mind worth it??

Just curious if im missing any of the major downsides to whitehat authority sites other than the hours of writing content yourself..

Because Blackhat is FASTER. I think you have a tainted image of blackhat, a lot of us here have completely whitehat sites, it's just the link building that is partially blackhat. If you are talking about autoblogs, they are quick to setup so scaling them is a lot more time efficient and most people can just flip them on flippa for some quick cash. Authority sites take a long time to establish :)

Whitehat takes longer, Authority Site (whitehat) takes way way longer. That's really all there is to it. If you start a whitehat site, you pretty much have to leave it on the back burner.

As you say, large authority whitehat sites take more time and money to create and maintain. Blackhat sites are often made for the short term - they are usually cheaper to create and maintain and used to build up money to invest in a whitehat site.

I have 5 huge Totally whitehat sites (no blackhathat tools used) and it's taken over 16 months to get them to earn $80-$60 a day per site.

But i have 2 blackhat sites that have hit $100-$120/day within 3 months.

    It says it all really!

It's simple. To build a real quality authority site, you need several skills and abilities, like for example:

    • Know to write really good content people like to read, and know a lot about certain niche
    • Lot of patience
    • Know how to plan things and stick to the plan
    • And you also need to have some other stream of income (or your mommy LOL) to support you until your authority site can support you :)
While to go blackhat (and take advanatage of someone's else money and effort other people put to their authority sites), you can easily buy software, or copy a code, or even buy a software that does everything for you... That's it!

    Ok, understandable.

I may dabble into afew small blackhat sites (micro niches or something) - I really dont want to but Im understanding that may be required.. Its just scary, the risk of being banned and etc.

Do you guys think its unreasonable or impossible for me to reach my goal of $20/day with a whitehat authority site if I work 5 hours a day for the next 2 months? If its unreasonable, what do you think the amount of time to reach $20/day would be??

My plan so far, Is going to be working on this whitehat site about 4 hours a day, and most likely doing 2-3 hours of article writing for others.. Its not a "get rich quick" scheme like blackhat methods, but it would be enough for me to pay my bills and have lots of time left over for my real passion in life, music (my ultimate goal in life is to pay my main bills from online in 4 hours a day or so, then the music gigs at night is the bonus ontop) ... am I stupid to think this would be a sustainable source of income?

I have a bankroll saved right now to support me for the next 3 months, which is why im focusing all my attention on this stuff right now. Hopefully by the end of the 3 months, I can continue it rather than going back to work a stupid dayjob. Music gigs are inconsistent; some times I can make $2000 a weekend, and then not get another gig for 3 months, so its not reliable, thats why I looked into online marketing for a more "stable" income (I understand how silly that sounds.. but its possible maybe if I stay whitehat, work hard and dont get banned??)

White hat and authority sites do take quite a while to build but they are solid and reliable sites that are less likely to tumble over in the night while you're sleeping.

I have a few 100% white hat sites and it has taken 2 years to get them to where they are now but they are stable and provide a very good income.

As another member stated here, build the black hat sites quickly for fast cash and take that money and put it in to your white hat site. Always expect the black hat sites to be taken away from you without warning and don't get upset about it. Shit happens.

Black hat is FUN and a laugh. You can learn so much from studying black hat and that will also help you to make sure your white hat sites are holier-than-thou :)

Don't think that way regarding how long it would to take to earn a specific amount.

Anyone that tells you a set figure you can earn in any given time is completely wrong, no-one in there right mind can actually put a figure on how much your going to earn in any given time.

Thats internet marketing for you. it's a game, aim of the game is to hit a target as quick as possible, then move onto the next target!

Use targets to work to and you'll be fine don't worry about how long it will take you or when you expect to earn.

All those in internet marketing that think they can earn x in a short space of time are the ones that usually drop out and end up in a job a mcdonalds

    Ok.

Innow I think the difference between people who 'expect to earn x ammount in a short period of time' is that they are the ones who dont put the work in, expect to just buy an ebook on a method and do 30 mins then make that money. Im here to work the hours as long as its a legitimate/whitehat method that morally I can live with. (ive already done ~15 hours into my authority site in the past 3 days) - Im looking for a legitimate way to earn, not just another "trick" method that will be banned or oversaturated in a week or two.

Therefor, I understand its hard to get an ACCURATE estimate on what is possible for an earning, but I dont think having a goal is a bad idea. My goal is $20/day by jan-feb staying whitehat..

So Innow, im assuming on the two blackhat sites you have that make 100/day, you are not using adsense, correct? If you dont mind me asking, what are you using? (not the method itself, just the form of like CPA/PPC/etc and does it go directly to your paypal or bank??)

I do only white hat sites but they are all micro niche for now.I'm starting an authority site in the next two months.Whitehat is slow and takes a lot of work but it gives me rest of mind.I have been banned by adsense before and lost a lot of money.Don't want to repeat the experience.

hmmm... I like when someone ask a legit question: Why don't we build more authority sites?:

the fast answer is money & laziness, it's rather easy to build a site, that will get hammered soon than later, but you got your money back and made a very good return.

a white hat site is completely different:
    A) you most likely enjoy the topic
    B) you did your research on the topic
    C) your research gave you a valid indication of what a conversion could yield ( IE: if you did everything right and got to serps ranking 6, what the expect advertising could produce in revenue )
    D) the short term rewards are not your goal, you are looking at long term results.

I have multiple sites that are white hat. I designed the goals on these sites to produce a certain $$$ value ( revenue via clicks, email, promotions ... ) and they don't have to hit those goals for about 2 to 3 years.

the problem with white hat sites is the effort, it's a business, don't think any other way. I invest 6 working hours per day in my web site business 5 days a week. anywhere from linking, managing content, making improvements and hiring vendors.

It's not easy, but the rewards are great.
let me give an example for one of my auto sites.
I currently have a site that targets a specific auto, from a specific era. it's rather stable. I have 7000 unique visitors per day, 40,000 page loads, and about a 20 minute stick time to my site. Not that big of a site per-say but the traffic is consistent which is what I need.

the site generates about 250 in revenue every day from adsense, I made deals with different automotive part manufacturers to become an affiliate ( I get a few pennies when they get a catalog out, and on the first order ). I am working with a classic car vendor to promote his inventory ( I get paid for the lead ). I have cut deals with other sites so that they can get some of my traffic in exchange for some of theirs ( think high quality link promotions ), It's endless.

in exchange, I now get invited for test drives, auto cruises, and vendor promotions when they are local ( or flown to a plant to see how it's made ), of course I get paid to promote a vendor, test drives are fun as heck, and I enjoy cruising and promoting a local shop or 2 ( without fee ) when the quality work is justified. I recently had to hire a profession video guy for this amazing tricked out car from a no-name place. ( my other revenue number are intentionally being left blank, no one needs to know )

And this has taken me about 5 years to get to this point. I happen to like this type of car, I enjoy the people in the industry and the best part is that I am making money, now $250.00 might sound like a lot, but ask any of the guys here whom run big white hat sites that made it to authority, it's not a lot at all, and they all know what the more real numbers are like ;)

Also note: google, bing, yahoo, and the rest are a free generator of traffic. As nice as it is, don't depend on it. I drop about 4600 per month on advertising on print media and targeted cable ad's ( you can see most of my cable ads on motor trends TV or HG network )

Point is that smart work pays off, you just have to look long term, and you want to build multiple sites at the same time. but at the end of the day it's the research that leads you to the goal.

so this is what you want to do:
    find 25 things you like.

narrow the list by looking at alexa, and seeing which of the 25 categories are steady in traffic, what you are looking for is consistency with very little seasonal change ( a good example is seasonal change is spring break or april 15th, both amazingly high traffic, but in 1 season only, does not cover the entire year )

pick the top 9 that are steady, do your keyword research and keyword valuation Research what those basic 9 things could pay if you had the top 6th site ( converting at 1.2% ).

now reduce that to 4, and start.

    Notes about starting:
buy a note book for each web site, put in the book ideas you learned from other web sites that you can do on yours.

    good luck

    Billy Good.

thanks Billy; and thats partly why I plan on doing an authority site.. Theres a subject I take more than a hobby, its actually my career path (granted one that is unstable, so I can't make consistent money) and my time spent on the internet is basically 50% on forums reading/posting about this subject. I have over 50k posts spread over 5+ forums on this topic, so just by posting a link in my signature on those forums (which is not quite spam cause its a relating topic) would be very beneficial.

Anyways, I think I got my answer. It also has to do with like Billy said; to spend this type of time on an authority site, it has to be something you have a personal interest in. Like I know personally, theres no way I would work 5 hours a day 5 days a week on a medical site; it would bore the hell out of me, But in my favored hobby/subject, Its not much different than posting on the forums I already do, just wording my articles as an article rather than a post.

I'll keep researching blackhat stuff though, if I can find something I would feel somewhat morally alright with doing, I may do one or two small 1-week projects to see if I could get $40/day for startup costs on the authority site.

BTW, anyone who runs a whitehat authority site and a blackhat site also, do you run them both on the same host/server? Like say if I had 2 folders in a Hostgator server, would that be a bad idea or should I buy two different servers from hostgator for each site??

Never mix the 2. servers do get a penalty. it's based on indirect observation, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Go for the big authority sites... build page upon page of content.. work your backside off if you are not going to outsource the content and you'll not be disappointed.

All I do now is build big authority sites and I outsource everything so you know it costs me thousands of dollars... and generally have a couple or three going at once.

Huge sites = huge money over time and that is the way I believe one should build a passive income empire.

That depends on how much unique content you add on a daily basis; I generally add 5,000 words of content daily for several months when I build a new site.

Do you buy a premium wp theme for each site or a free wp theme? I'm looking at buying a premium wp theme in the magazine/ news category because they look much more professional for my upcoming authority site(s) I have in mind.

    Thanks

I use the free themes... what makes the sites work is tons of content, good plugins, good ping lists and solid offsite SEO.
