Why Bother Writing an Impressive About Us Page?

    In any client interviews, I make sure I dress to impress. You know what they say, first impression lasts.

    I work online so dressing up literally does not count. I just make sure that I sell myself well by telling my story.

    It's the same as your About Us page. You are letting your potential clients know who you are.

    Trust is a big word. How can you convert reading to trusting? Simple: just state the facts.

    No, not that default and boring company statement. I'm talking about counting the feathers on your cap aloud.

    Let the whole world know what you can do in a personal and interesting way. You will surely convert them into sales in no time!

    I would prefer to fill my about us page with more image and videos and little text because no one cares to read thousands of words but images and videos are short and easy to understand about the company and the products.

    That's one good way, too. :)

    But I think, that's the magic and challenge of it. How would you sell yourself in a few words? Videos and images that talk about you would still contain texts, only that the viewers would only hear it (your VO's script).

    I disagree, people like me do care about reading text. It's true, pictures are worth a thousand words, but there is a fine art to knowing how to mix in images, videos, and text copy to create a better user experience.

    That's true. It is also possible that people focus more on the videos and images because of the product or service they offer. But for me, it's really more on how people could relate to your story. :)

    What a bunch of nonsense. But I'm sure you write wonderful About us-pages in your BST. ;)

    Just write down the meaning and purpose of your website. Maybe a little about yourself, too. Put in some contact information. Then be done with it.

    It's just time consuming trying to spray glitter on every little thing

    I think it would not be time-consuming if you know what to write. And a sprinkle of glitters into something that people actually read does not hurt, right? :)

    It would be good to have some figures in About Us page that can be impressive, for example "Our company has serviced clients in more than 100 countries".

    Can't agree more. Who starts sales pitch with a close? Amateur. Why would process differ online?

    About Us - or story, or mission - page introduces brand to prospect. But that's just a tip of an iceberk. The real job is to connect with prospect, to stir emotions inside, and to resonate with him.

    And here is my take on image vs text debate: the more time I can get prospect to spend on my web, the deeper relationship we build. Also - warning pure broscience ahead - reading 200 words fires more braincells than viewing a few images. So in theory, reading has a deeper inpact on a human. All that taken into account, the issue becomes one of readability. But don't sweat about it too much, people truly interested will read your shit as long as it's somewhat decent. All others, you don't care about.

    It's most important that your about page looks and feels real. It is there to make people trust you more which leads to higher conversion rates in the end, and more quality clients. It doesn't need be long, but able to connect with your audience.

    Text-rich about us pages never work in my opinion.

    The page has to showcase:

    - images (team size, looks, real offices)
    - awards and certifications
    - figures
    - external links for proof (clutch.co, linkedin, etc.)

    The words people write there are actually secondary.

    Right, there are a lot of us who likes reading text.. while it is true that videos help, and images helps convey the message about you powerfully, i always look for text and words to read.

    Well, in Germany the "about us" page is known as the Impressum and it is one of the most visited pages on a site. It must include all the information about the business as a legal entity.
