Why are most CB products so trash?

Almost all the products on this site have very crappy sales pages with big red letters asking to "click here!" always hitting you with a popup when trying to close the tab. This looks like stuff you'd find in 2008 using internet explorer, I'm still surprised some of these weight loss programs have such high gravity. Of course there're still good products with clean pages but still quite few.. Did most sellers just ditch CB for a better affiliate program?

Well the first thing I do when choosing a CB product is visit their sales page and say, if I was looking for a weight loss program, would I buy this? If the answer is yes, then I promote. If the answer is no, I just ditch it. I still prefer Commission Junction though.

For me, the answer would be no most of the time when asking myself if I would buy a product off of clickbank because they look so scammy even though they all actually provide some value. Would you say the products on CJ are better/convert better?

Well, to put it simply, they are "trash" because:
    1. You're not their target demographic
    2. "Trash" works

After you've got more experience with affiliate marketing and spend some time studying copy writing, you'll understand why those trash pages can make people rich.

I'm not doubting that they can sell, they target people's emotions which always works. But what I am saying is that there's tons of people out there who don't even bother with the page because it looks so "give me your money!" - like, and they could definitely increase their conversions.

Trash works but it could probably thrive if it looked a little better.

I understand what you're saying. I used to think like that too. It's a common perspective among those who haven't spent and earned a good amount of money in advertising/marketing.

These guys with high gravity products aren't stupid or shortsighted. They have more than enough resources to make great looking sites, but their split testing has taught them that the "trash" sites outperform the others, so that's what they stick with. Good marketers don't care about aesthetics, they care about ROI, and even in 2016 it's tough to beat the ROI of a "trash" page in certain markets/demographics.

Because an idiot is born every minute and the product doesn't need to be high quality to get many sales.

All you need to make money is traffic + a good landing page = $$

There have always been, and will continue to be, people that buy shitty products.

They are all using the same sale techniques that worked 10 years ago and will work 10 years in the future, e.g. money back guarantee, handwritten signature at the end of sale page, call to action...
No need to reinvent the wheel.

Their sales copy is highly targeted, which is why they get away with the landing pages they have. While most do not know the correct use of sales psychology to use for their pages, some of the more higher converting ones spend countless hours and thousands of dollars testing and split testing. These people are using their brains to convert traffic into sales, but just simply outsourcing the traffic generation to affiliates.

Take notes from the big boys, and innovate on it.
